City Council meeting last night I enjoyed seeing this stellar group of new YOUTH COUNCIL members sworn in to serve another year on the South Jordan Youth Council!

⭐Great teens and their families filled the council chamber to support these service oriented youth in their leadership roles.

In the study session we discussed the framework of our SJC Arts Master plan.

Our current city council has worked hard to get this interchange added for our growing community. As a city council member, I'll continue to support infrastructure changes to keep our roads safe and to reduce traffic!

Bangerter will go under 9800 South similar to the intersections at 10400 South and 11400 South.

🇺🇲 National League of Cities conference in Washington DC. I'm grateful to be exposed to leaders from across the nation and the education I'm gaining. This is my first time attending.

Sitting in a room of hundreds of mayors and council members from across the USA. My heart goes out to these community leaders who are still struggling to recover from the covid pandemic.

I sat by a gentleman from South Florida who's been working over 30 years in city government. I asked him how does he not get discouraged or feel hopeless with all the needs around him. He said, "the day I feel hopeless is the day I stop trying! You gotta have HOPE!" I replied, "Amen!" 💯😃

In our City of South Jordan and our great state of Utah we navigated and fared better than most. 🙏🏻

What does your City do for you? All the things you don't want to think about? Lol
👍🏻 Public safety, manage water, sewer, garbage, street lights. Land use, zoning and more. When all of this works were happy and satisfied. And if it doesn't... 🫨🤨 watch out.

Hot topics at the conference: Local infrastructure, Homelessness, local business, clean accessible water.

👉🏼Big SURPRISE to me was the hot topic of internet access. What?😯 Some cities have people who will stand outside a local restaurant because they need access to internet. I'm shocked. They told about kids who'll go to the local sandwich shop and do their homework.

One thing we all agree about is Local autonomy. City leaders unanimously work for this. But everyone's needs are so unique and varied!

🌸🌸After classes yesterday I jumped on an E Bike to see some Smithsonian museums and memorials. 🌸 LOVE the CHERRY BLOSSOMS! they are in full bloom and it's killing me to not leave the Conf and go walk and linger on the trails by the tidal basin. I'm loving the E Bike option and moving around the mall at my pace. 😉🚲🌸

How do to feel about ARPA recovery funds? What's you're perspective?

Today I'm listening to other city leaders and their ARPA recovery funds are a lifeline for some of them. I'm returning home to Utah a grateful more committed community member. Our state and cities are being managed so well. Our state in large part is a "unicorn" - and I'm grateful for those who've gone before and LEAD OUT with integrity.

Utah's new Beehive Flag. It is official - March 21, Gov. Spencer Cox signed SB31, which officially adopts the new design, and designated the historic flag will fly above the new flag on ceremonial occasions at the Utah Capitol. The new Beehive design will be officially adopted on Utah’s flag day, March 9, 2024.

Please note the important symbolism of the new design: The color bands of blue, white, and red, represent our state’s lakes and wide-open skies, our snowy mountains, and the red-rock canyons of southern Utah. The beehive represents the state’s history and “Industry,” our slogan. The rugged mountain landscapes recognizes the state’s Indigenous people, including the eight Tribal nations, who have lived here since time immemorial, and are still here and still thriving. At the foundation of the beehive is a five-pointed star, which represents the year 1896, when Utah became a state.

Colonial Flag in Sandy is one local company that is selling the new flag. For a 15% discount to purchase Here's the link: colonialflag.com. Others will soon be selling merchandise with the new Utah flag design.
