Thanks to long days and hard work by firefighters and pilots, is now 50% contained. No fire growth occurred today, and is still mapped at 134 acres.

Containment is on the south and west sides of the fire, closest to I-84 and Uintah. Firefighters from this perimeter will be reassigned to the north and east areas tomorrow. The fire is still moderately active on the north side at the top of the mountain. The east portion has minimal heat after today's shift, and crews will work this edge hard tomorrow.

Firefighters on the mountain utilized water drops from multiple helicopters throughout today's shift to cool the hot spots along the active perimeter.

A storm moved into the area this afternoon. Despite no rain falling onto the fire, the clouds brought in higher humidity and cooled the area which helped firefighters.

At 8pm today, both eastbound lanes on I-84 will be open. Westbound is still down to one lane, as firefighters continue to work on the north side of the road. Please still drive carefully through the area, paying close attention to slower traffic.

The in Weber Canyon is mapped at 134 acres and is now 10% contained. The containment is on the south side of I-84, in Davis County by the Weber River.

Traffic on I-84 is still down to one lane in both directions near the mouth of the canyon (the inside lanes). Please slow down and use caution when traveling through the area. Fire crews have seen many close calls with public distracted by aviation and don't see traffic slowing down. There are many firefighters and equipment working the area.

The fire edge on the south and west sides are seeing no movement and little-to-no heat. There are some hot spots on the east perimeter, with potential to move as the winds pick up. The fire is still active on the north side, burning slowly through the underbrush and trees. Overall, today firefighters are not experiencing high fire activity or extreme flame lengths.

There are now four crews on scene and inserted on the mountain, being supported by aviation as needed to cool hot spots.

The winds are starting to pick up as the storm front moves into the area, which will be a test to some of the fireline to assure it holds.

The at the mouth of Weber Canyon was still highly active overnight. As of Sept 6 morning, the fire is still 0% contained and estimated 125 acres. This is an active incident and will continue to burn for at least a few days, despite firefighter efforts.

There will be gusty down-canyon winds this morning. This will test the western firepine that crews and aviation built yesterday. The weather will be hot and extremely dry through most of the day. The eastern flank still has heat and potential for growth. The north side is still active.

I-84 is open with only one lane west bound, due to continued fire activity. East bound is open both lanes. Please no stopping, slowing, or pulling over. There is a lot of fire traffic and crews in the area. Drive slowly and defensively, paying close attention to your surroundings. We anticipate heavy holiday traffic and want to avoid any car accidents.

The fire is mostly in steep rocky terrain, which is difficult to access. This will cause containment to take longer to reach. Public should expect to see firefighters and equipment working this fire for multiple days, with active fire and smoke visible. The fire is not out, and is still growing (mostly on the north flank). Do not report or call 911 about this fire.

There are no evacuations at this time. Public needs to avoid the fire area, including roads, trails, and air (no drones). Help us keep both public and firefighters safe.

The at the mouth of Weber Canyon is estimated 125 acres and still 0%

Highway 84 has opened the inside lane in both directions. Please drive slowly and safely without stopping or pulling over. There is still active fire on both sides of the highway.

Forward progression has stopped on the south side of Hwy 84, and crews will begin mopping up and trying to gain containment on this area.

The fire has slowed on the east and western flanks, though there is still lots of heat and potential along these sides. The north perimeter is still seeing activity and growth. Crews have hiked in and are working diligently to cool these hot spots.

Firefighters will be on scene overnight working the fire. This is still an active incident. Fire and smoke will be visible. Please do not call and report a fire.

The started on state land at the mouth of Weber Canyon near Uintah this afternoon (Sept 5) but has now burned onto national forest.

Due to continued fire behavior and aircraft flying over the road, Hwy 84 is still currently closed both directions. Please find an alternate route and avoid the Hwy 84/89 junction. This will help minimize potential for secondary incidents from traffic being backed up.

The fire is burning mostly north/northeast on the north slope above Hwy 84. Aircraft and crews have been successful keeping the fire on the east side of the U slope, away from Uintah. The south side of Hwy 84, crews are making great progress and have stopped forward progression on the Davis County side.

There are no official evacuations in place or immediate threats to communities, but residents in the area should continue to follow this page and stay near phones for any alerts or notices.

Multiple members of the public have been seen hiking into the fire area and riding dirt bikes up the trails towards the fire. Fire managers remind the public that this is a dangerous and active fire, and it endangers not only their life, but the lives of our firefighters. Please stay off the trails, off the roads in the area, and out of the air (no drones!) so we can do our jobs safely 🔥

Heber-Kamas Ranger District
Lost Creek Timber Sale Seasonal Closure

A temporary closure will be in effect for the Cold Springs Road area on the Heber-Kamas Ranger District beginning September 8, 2026, through November 25, 2026. The public health and safety closure is required to allow for timber sale operations in the area. The purpose of the project is to reduce hazardous fuels by removing beetle killed spruce trees.

Do not block BYU Alumni Camp, gates or campground.

U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officers patrol some of the country's wildest areas. Meaning their beats can take them hours away from the nearest town to respond to accidents or injuries. Or support search and rescue, enforce fire and firework restrictions, investigate wildfire ignitions. And maybe even provide lifesaving CPR.

Currently the Forest Service has 450 sworn officers patrolling 193 million acres of national forest and grasslands. On average, that works out to about a 430,000-acre beat per officer — an area just over the size of Rhode Island.

“The variety of work that we do on any given day as law enforcement, it’s a lot of responsibility,” said Tracy Perry, director of Law Enforcement and Investigations at the Forest Service.
