Good evening Matthys families,

As we wrap up another incredible school year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our students, families, faculty, and staff for making this year truly magnificent. Together, we have learned, grown, and created lasting memories that will carry us forward.
We wish all of our families a safe, restful, and fun-filled summer! We hope this time brings relaxation, adventure, and plenty of opportunities to recharge.
Looking ahead, we are filled with excitement for the 2026–2027 school year and all the possibilities it holds for our school family.

🎓 Congratulations to Our Graduate!
We would like to celebrate our recent graduate, Melissa Chapa-Maldonado, and wish her all the best as she begins her journey in education. We are so proud and can’t wait to see the impact she will make!
🌅 Best Wishes to Our Retirees
To those closing this chapter and beginning retirement, Coach Deleon, Mrs. Haffelder, Mrs. Chapa, and Ms. Lopez, we thank you for your years of dedication and service. May your days ahead be filled with adventure, joy, and well-deserved relaxation.
💼 Congratulations on New Opportunities
We’d also like to recognize and congratulate our two ladies, Ms. Calderon and Mrs. D. Ramirez who have accepted counseling positions in another district. While we will miss you both, we are excited for your new journey and know you will continue to make a difference in the lives of students.

To those stepping away, whether through new opportunities or choosing to stay home with family, please know you will always be part of our school family. You have each left a lasting impact, and you will be greatly missed. Ms. Gomola and Mrs. Rivas.

Good afternoon Matthys families,

We are so proud of our talented Mustangs for putting on such a fantastic Variety Show today! Their excitement, and courage truly lit up the stage. It was so special to see their faces light up when they spotted their parents and family members in the audience, thank you for coming out to support them!

We are looking forward to celebrating our students again during tomorrow’s and Friday's Awards Ceremonies! Please keep the following reminders in mind:
🚫 School-aged children are not allowed to attend events during school hours.
🎈 No balloons, flowers, or gifts should be brought to ceremonies.
🏫 Students are encouraged to remain at school after their ceremony.
Students are required to be marked present in order to attend ceremony.
Kindergarten Ceremony: 8:15 AM
Second Grade Ceremony: 9:45 AM
Third Grade Ceremony: 11:45 AM
First Grade Ceremony: 1:15 PM
Pre-K Ceremony: 5:00 PM

This week we had the honor of welcoming back the amazing Senior Class of 2026! 🎓✨

Seeing our former students walk the halls again reminded us how quickly time flies and how proud we are of each and every one of them. Your hard work, growth, and accomplishments continue to inspire our younger students to dream big and never give up.

We are incredibly proud of our six outstanding students who represented Matthys at the District Gifted and Talented Showcase! 🎉
These students demonstrated true courage as they presented their innovative projects to unfamiliar audiences and engaged in discussions with guests. Stepping outside of their comfort zones, they embraced feedback and showcased their talents.
Their dedication and creativity truly modeled excellence and made our Matthys school family proud. 💙

🎉 Teacher Appreciation Week – Day 5! 🎉

We wrapped up Teacher Appreciation Week with full hearts and grateful smiles! 💙 A heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing parents for their generous donations and continued support, your kindness truly helps us celebrate our incredible teachers and staff.

🍔A big shout out to Mi Tienda for their wonderful food donations, including hamburger buns, chips, condiments, vegetables, and hamburger patties. We would also like to thank the parents (Mr. Ortiz, Ms. Rivas, Ms. Serna, Ms. Careaga, and Ms. Juarez) who generously volunteered their time to help prepare and serve the food, your teamwork and dedication made today’s celebration a success!

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Mayor Soto and City of South Houston City Council for the beautiful and delicious cake. 🎂 What a thoughtful way to help us end the week on a sweet note!

🍩 Special shout out to Ms. Guzman (Mia's mom) who surprised our staff with donuts. Thank you for adding an extra dose of sweetness and smiles to the day!

🎁 Thank you to our local businesses who donated gift certificates and coupons that gave our staff a fun 1‑in‑3 chance to spin and win. Your support brought excitement and appreciation to our celebration!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week unforgettable. We are so grateful for our supportive community and our extraordinary educators! 🌟

💙🍎 Teacher & Staff Appreciation – Day 3 + Nurses Appreciation Day! 🩺💙
A huge THANK YOU to our local Starbucks for keeping our staff energized with coffee ☕ and Crumbl for the delicious cookies that sweetened everyone’s day 🍪.
We are also incredibly grateful to our amazing parents and Lone Star Muffler & Brake #1 for helping keep our snack cart stocked, and for the refreshing cold sodas and waters—you all made today extra special!
And on Nurses Appreciation Day, we proudly celebrate Mrs. Lloyd for the care, compassion, and support given to our students and staff every single day. 💙 Today, our staff and students played two separate pranks. Some of our students had broken hearts and couldn't tell the difference between their toes and fingers. All while our staff were delivering ANY balloon BUT a THANK YOU balloon. 😝
