Happy Juneteenth, South Holland!

As our nation commemorates America's 250th anniversary this year, Juneteenth offers an important opportunity to reflect on the ongoing journey toward freedom and liberty for all. Today, we honor the resilience, contributions, and achievements of African Americans while celebrating the values of freedom, unity, and hope that continue to shape our country and our village.

Join us tomorrow, June 20, for the South Holland Ministerial Association's annual Coming Together on Juneteenth celebration at Veterans Memorial Park from 12–4 pm as we come together as a community to celebrate, learn, and connect.

Please see these important tips to help preventflooding from today's rain.

Overflow Action Alert

Heavy rain is expected in the Chicago area today. Reduce your use of water during and after the storm to help prevent flooding and protect water quality:

• Delay showers and baths
• Flush less frequently
• Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine

Flooding and sewer backups can happen for a variety of reasons. To help prevent flooding inside or around your home, there are actions you and your family can take before and during rainfall.

Please be advised that several large trees fell at Van’O Park during Saturday night’s storm. In addition, a large branch has fallen near the swingset at Veterans Park. For the safety of our residents, we ask that you avoid these areas until the fallen trees, branches, and debris have been cleared.

If you have downed branches or limbs on your property, the Public Works department will pick them up over the next few days. Please stack them neatly at the curb. You do not need to call Public Works to arrange a pickup.

Please Note: If a tree or branch has fallen into the roadway, Public Works will cut it up and remove it. They are not able to go on private property to cut up trees. Parkway trees are ultimately the responsibility of the property owner.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

The Village of South Holland would like residents to know that the South Holland Police Department is maintaining a visible presence in and around Veterans Park today as part of the operational plan previously announced regarding reports of a potential “Teen Takeover” event.

At this time, there have been no incidents, and all activity in the park remains peaceful. The increased police presence is a proactive measure intended to help ensure public safety, maintain order, and protect Village property.

As we stated previously, the Village and Police Department take all credible information seriously and will continue to take appropriate steps to safeguard our residents, visitors, and community assets. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our residents as officers remain on site throughout the day.

We encourage everyone to continue enjoying our parks responsibly. The safety and well-being of our community remains our highest priority.
