Today, we witnessed something powerful.
Students from Thornton Township High School District 205 officially unveiled the Digital Learning Exchange (DLX), a student-led initiative that connects young people in Illinois and Ghana through education, leadership development, and cultural exchange.
The event also highlighted the International Desk Drive, where classroom furniture and educational resources are being shipped to schools in Ghana. Six containers have already departed, with additional shipments currently being prepared.
But this story is about much more than desks.
It is about young people choosing to lead.
It is about students using their voices, talents, and compassion to make a difference in the lives of others.
It is about a community coming together (educators, students, families, businesses, and civic leaders) to demonstrate what is possible when we invest in the next generation.
Too often, we hear about what is wrong with our youth. Today, we celebrate what is right.
District 205 students are showing the world that leadership has no age limit, service knows no borders, and education can build bridges across continents.
The children are still our future. Today, they showed us why.
