The South Hill Police Department is proud to announce that Chief Ryan Durham received the prestigious VACP Certified Law Enforcement Executive (VCLEE) certification from the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) on September 1, 2026, during the VACP Annual Conference in Roanoke, Virginia.

Chief Durham was among twenty-four law enforcement executives across the Commonwealth recognized for achieving this distinguished professional certification. The VACP Law Enforcement Executive Certification Program promotes the highest standards of leadership, professional development, and executive excellence within Virginia law enforcement agencies.

Participation in the program is completely voluntary and requires candidates to meet rigorous standards, including executive tenure requirements, formal education, professional development training, and demonstrated service to the law enforcement profession and their communities.

This achievement reflects Chief Durham's commitment to professional excellence, ethical leadership, and continued service to the citizens of South Hill. As Labor Day weekend quickly approaches, the South Hill Police Department reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly. Officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers throughout the holiday weekend.

If you plan to drink, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, arrange for a ride, or stay where you are. Never get behind the wheel impaired.

Help us keep South Hill’s roads safe this Labor Day weekend.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office joins law enforcement agencies across Virginia in mourning the passing of Martinsville Sheriff Steve Draper.

Sheriff Draper was someone we had a tremendous amount of respect for, not only as a fellow Sheriff and law enforcement colleague, but even more so as a friend. His dedication to his community, his profession, and the people he served will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheriff Draper’s family, friends, the men and women of the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office, and all those whose lives he touched during this difficult time.

We are grateful for his friendship and his many years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Rest easy, Sheriff Draper. Your friendship, leadership, and service will always be remembered. 💙

🚔 SHPD Participating in Saturation Saturday

The South Hill Police Department is joining MADD Virginia and law enforcement agencies across the country for Saturation Saturday on August 29th.

As we head into Labor Day weekend, SHPD officers will be conducting increased patrols with a focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

If you plan to drink, don’t drive. Designate a sober driver, arrange for a ride, or stay where you are.

⚠️ Consider this your warning. SHPD will be out looking for impaired drivers.
