This EMS Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible members of South Hero Rescue.

Day and night, you answer the calls no one expects to make. Whether it’s providing life-saving care, comforting someone on their worst day, or simply being there when our community needs you most.

The countless hours of training, sacrifice, teamwork, and compassion you give to this community make a difference every single day. We are proud to stand beside such an amazing group of EMS providers who continually serve with professionalism, heart, and commitment.

Thank you for everything you do for South Hero and the surrounding communities.

Ever wonder what your fire department does for training, how often we train, or what it’s really like behind the scenes? 🚒

Tonight, our members worked on re-certifying on our engines for the year and Marine 1 operations; while also helping newer members learn the fundamentals of how engine pumping operations work. Hands-on training like this helps keep our team prepared and ready to respond when the community needs us most.

We train every Wednesday at 6:30 PM with a mix of hands-on drills, refreshers, and skill-building exercises.

🌊 Warmer weather is finally here, but the lake is still VERY cold! Even if it’s 70–80° outside, lake temperatures are still in the 40s. Please use caution if you’re heading out on the water.

🇺🇸 You may have seen us Sunday putting flags up throughout the villages and along South Street! We still have a few more to hang, so if you see us out and about, give us a wave!

🔥 Prescribed Burn Planned at Sandbar Wildlife Management Area in Milton

Vermont Fish & Wildlife officials are planning a prescribed burn this spring at the Sandbar Wildlife Management Area near Route 2 in Milton as part of an effort to restore rare sandplain habitat and protect fire-dependent species.

The controlled burn will begin as early as Tuesday, May 12, and will cover approximately 53 acres west of Route 2.

According to state biologists, the carefully planned burn will help support species such as pitch pine and several threatened and endangered plants that rely on natural fire cycles to survive and thrive.

Officials say the burn will only take place under favorable weather conditions, with safety as the top priority. Professional crews from Vermont Forests, Parks & Recreation, New Hampshire Division of Forests & Lands, the U.S. Forest Service, and Vermont Fish & Wildlife will oversee the operation.

🚧 Signs will be posted along Route 2 during the burn, and smoke may be visible in the area.

The prescribed fire is part of ongoing habitat restoration efforts designed to mimic natural wildfire conditions in a safe and controlled way while improving habitat for wildlife and native plants.

We are proud to say that $1,700 is being given to the Grand Isle County Mentoring Program to support the students in our community & the mentors that support them!
