The City of South Haven, South Haven Police Department, and South Haven Area Emergency Services will host a remembrance ceremony, Friday, September 11 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks. The community is invited to attend this event.

The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Huron Street Pavilion and will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the Firefighter’s Memorial on the downtown island along Phoenix Street.

The program will include guest speakers, the tolling of bells and moments of silence recognizing the events of September 11. The South Haven High School Band will perform, and the South Haven Area Emergency Services Honor Guard will present colors during the ceremony.

Firefighters also will take part in a 9/11 memorial stair climb in honor of the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who perished while climbing the 110 stories of the Twin Towers on September 11th.

“It is difficult to imagine that these attacks took place 25 years ago because the memories remain so vivid,” South Haven Area Emergency Services Chief Brandon Hinz said. “SHAES recognizes the events of September 11 each year, but with this being the 25th anniversary, we wanted to do something special to commemorate the occasion.”

“We hope the community will join us as we remember and honor all those who lost their lives, those who responded that day, and everyone whose lives were forever changed by the events of September 11,” Hinz said.
