The Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library

The Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library Since the opening of the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, we have become a vital and integral part of the crew that brings you your library resources.

The Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library (FOHWPL) was created to support the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library. We fund all museum passes that are offered to patrons of the Hamilton-Wenham Library. We sponsor special events and programs offered at the library for both adults and children, and provide for the purchase of special equipment, hardware and furniture. Through membership contributi

ons, donations of books, and purchases of those books at our sales, we are able to provide the extra resources and improvements that make our library the special place that it is! Come join your friends and neighbors and feel a true sense of pride and accomplishment as we make a difference in our community. We welcome you and your ideas!

Tomorrow May 1st at 6:30 PM at the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library! Join the Friends at our 2026 Annual Meeting featuring acclaimed author and longtime Yankee Magazine editor Mel Allen.
Mel Allen’s career with Yankee Magazine spans more than four decades. From the publication of his first story in 1979 to his retirement as editor in 2025, Allen’s writing has captured the distinc-tive character of New England—its places, people, and everyday stories.
In his newest book, Here in New England, Allen brings together 45 of his favorite pieces, each enhanced with new introductions and postscripts that provide personal context and fresh perspective. Together, the collection offers readers a warm, timeless portrait of the region. Mr. Allen will share highlights from his book and reflections on the people he met and the stories he uncovered while traveling throughout New England for Yankee Magazine. Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase the book and have it inscribed by the author.
The evening will begin at 6:30 PM with a brief business meeting followed at 7:00 PM by the featured talk from Mel Allen. This program is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
