Today, our electric and telecom crews are taking part in one of the most important days of the year - bucket and pole top rescue training.

This training teaches our crews how to safely rescue a coworker who becomes injured, unconscious or electrocuted while working - either in an aerial bucket truck or on a utility pole. Bucket and pole-top rescue training is critically important because electrical linework combines three high risk conditions all at once; high voltage, working at a height and remote or difficult environments. When something goes wrong, coworkers usually only have a few minutes to save a life!

This month in Mrs Overgaard's class, with Spring upon us, we discussed in length and watched a short video about DigSafe and why it is so important to report any time that you are digging! We did a quick question and answer about what we learned during our discussion - as always, the participation was excellent!

We also got to try out some fun things this month - we fried a pickle (class favorite) and made a battery with lemon juice! We left all of the kiddos with a word search (another class favorite) and a fun St Patrick's Day pen and light-up fidget spinner.

We only have two months left for this year's adopt-a-classroom but we are excited to get outside and do some fun things during these last two months together - can't wait to share pictures of next month's visit.

Back in February right before the winter break, we had our monthly visit with Mrs Overgaard's class! This time, we talked all about the internet; how it effects and is involved in our everyday life, the class got to meet one of our Fiberspring technicians and they even got to see him splice fiber - many of the students even told us that they have our Fiberspring internet service at their house!

I think the favorite part of our visit was the time that we worked with the class to build a STEM fiber optic light that each student got to take home.

Meeting with Mrs. Overgaard's class each month brings such joy to our staff at SHELD as we get to engage and bring real life environments inside of the school to share with students. The minds of third graders are amazing as they are so eager to learn and engage in whatever activity we bring along! We cannot wait to visit next week 🙂

Our office is open for in-person service with normal business hours today of 8 AM - 4 PM.

Please note, there is a parking ban in place until 6 PM on Wednesday (2/25) which includes Main St. If you plan to visit our office either today or tomorrow, please plan accordingly to ensure that you are following this emergency parking ban. There are limited parking spaces available in our parking lot for customer use.
