Tomorrow is World Day, a time to honor older adults as vital members of our community who connect us to our past and contribute to our future. They are also at greatest risk in the event of a fire at home. Help protect yourself and the seniors in your family! Older adults should have working and alarms, home escape plans that account for their needs, and a File of Life for local public safety agencies: https://ow.ly/tS7p50T1qt6

Today, August 13, 2026, Lt. Silas Costa, Firefighter/EMT Carolyn Abrantes, and Firefighter/EMT Nathan Dufault had the opportunity to attend and participate in the Aircraft Accident Response Training for First Responders at Plymouth Municipal Airport, along with other Fire Departments and Public Safety Agencies from around New England.

This specialized training was presented by the Federal Aviation Administration’s FAASTeam and provided first responders with hands-on instruction focused on the unique challenges associated with aircraft emergencies.

During the course, participants conducted hands-on aircraft extrication, shoring, and stabilization evolutions, while learning safe aircraft access, emergency egress, shutdown procedures, and aviation-specific responder safety considerations. The training concluded with a full-scale aircraft emergency exercise that incorporated rescue operations, patient access, treatment, and emergency medical care in a realistic response environment.

Training opportunities such as this allow our members to build experience in low-frequency, high-risk incidents while strengthening coordination with aviation professionals and other public safety agencies.
