Clark County Recognizes Severe Weather Awareness Week: March 15–21
The Clark County Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents that Severe Weather Awareness Week in Ohio runs from March 15–21, 2026, highlighting the importance of preparing for spring and summer weather hazards such as tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, flooding, and lightning.
Severe weather can develop quickly in Ohio, making preparedness and early warnings critical for protecting lives and property. Clark County EMA encourages residents, businesses, and schools to take time this week to review their emergency plans and ensure they know what to do before severe weather strikes.
As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, a Statewide Tornado Drill will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9:50 a.m. Participation in the drill is optional, but Clark County residents, schools, and workplaces are encouraged to take part and practice moving to a safe location.
“Severe Weather Awareness Week is a great reminder for everyone to review their plans and know where they will go if a warning is issued,” said the Clark County EMA Director Michelle Clements-Pitstick. “Taking a few minutes now to prepare can make a critical difference when severe weather occurs.”
During the drill or an actual tornado warning, individuals should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest level of a sturdy building, away from windows.
Preparedness Tips for Clark County Residents:
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including a NOAA Weather Radio, local media, or trusted alert apps.
• Identify a safe shelter location at home, work, and school.
• Prepare an emergency kit with essentials such as water, medications, flashlights, and batteries.
• Secure outdoor items that could become dangerous in high winds.
• Review your family communication plan in case severe weather occurs when family members are in different locations.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware throughout the spring storm season and monitor trusted weather sources for updates.
