BUSY EVENING AHEAD: I'll be honest, it's not very often we see a parameter space for severe weather this robust in WNY. An unusually strong combination of instability and wind shear will set the stage for severe thunderstorms later this afternoon into the evening. The primary risk will be damaging, straight-line winds.

It is worth noting, there is sufficient helicity (twisting) to the atmosphere to warrant at least some risk for tornadoes. It's not impossible a few of these could be strong. Having a setup favorable for tornadoes does NOT inherently mean we will have tornadoes. Hopefully, we don't. But the fact remains the risk for tornadoes is much greater later today than any other typical day in this part of the world. Best to be prepared, just in case.
