Tonight, three members of the South Burlington Fire Department and two retired members of the Burlington Fire Department had the privilege of volunteering at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, preparing and serving dinner for guests staying at the lodge while receiving cancer treatment.

The Hope Lodge provides a welcoming home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers during a difficult time. We were honored to spend the evening giving back, sharing a meal, and supporting those on their cancer journey.

Thank you to the staff and guests for allowing us to be a small part of your evening.

At the recent South Burlington Fire Department Recognition Night, we had the opportunity to recognize two members who achieved a significant professional milestone by successfully completing paramedic school and earning their National Registry certification.

Becoming a paramedic requires countless hours of classroom instruction, clinical rotations, field experience, studying, and personal sacrifice. Their dedication and perseverance have expanded the level of care our department can provide to the community and reflect a commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence.

Please join us in congratulating FF/Paramedic Blair and FF/Paramedic Rathbun on this outstanding accomplishment. We are proud to have them serving the residents and visitors of South Burlington.

👏 Congratulations, and thank you for your commitment to our community.

After more than two years of planning, design, and development, South Burlington Fire Department officially placed the new Engine 2 into service last evening.

Engine 2 is a custom fire engine that will respond from Station 2 alongside Ambulance 2, serving the community with enhanced capability, reliability, and safety.

Affectionately nicknamed the "Route 7 Express," this apparatus gets its name from more than just the busy US Route 7 corridor that serves as the primary route to many of its emergency responses. The name also pays tribute to the Vermont Rail System line that runs throughout Station 2’s response area, recognizing the strong connection between our transportation corridors and the community we serve.

From medical emergencies to structure fires, this truck was designed specifically around the needs of our department and community.

A project like this takes significant input from many people. Thank you to everyone involved in designing, building, training on, and preparing this apparatus for service. We are appreciative of our supportive city leadership and community members who allocate the funding to make this happen.

We would also like to extend a special thanks to Garth and his crew at Desorcie Emergency Products for helping with the truck design.

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of our fleet - Engine 2, the Route 7 Express.

After the success of last year’s Officer Development Program, we expanded our focus to continue investing in firefighter growth, leadership, decision making, and team development at every level of the organization.

The firefighter professional development program gives our firefighters the opportunity to discuss topics related to them in a forum with no officers present.

Topics included:

🔥 “Who Is In Your Firehouse” building stronger teams by understanding the people we work alongside.

🚒 “The Commonsense Mitigation of the Less Common Emergency” discussing incident management and decision making during uncommon events.

A big thank you to Fire Chief Aaron Collette from Williston Fire Department for taking the time to share his knowledge and experience with our members.

This Town Meeting Day, South Burlington voters will be asked to approve a $2.3 million bond to build an addition to Fire Station 1.

The addition is to accommodate our Fire Prevention Division, which includes our fire marshals, rental registry inspectors, and electrical inspector. These members of our team provide vital services to the community by ensuring our buildings meet safety standards and codes. This helps keep our residents, visitors, and firefighters safer while living and working in South Burlington.

The bond will be paid through capital assessment fees on new permits and registrations issued by our prevention division.

Please scan the QR code below to learn more about this proposed bond project, and we hope you choose to support it at the polls next week.
