Pathways Vermont

Pathways Vermont A non-profit organization that provides community-based mental health services and collaborative learning that center people as the experts of their own lives.

Pathways Vermont is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports people to live and thrive in the community at times in their lives when they are most distressed: when they are struggling with thoughts of suicide, are experiencing homelessness, incarceration, institutionalization, mental health struggles or substance use challenges. Pathways Vermont is the first and largest Housing First organization in Vermont, providing permanent housing without requirements or barriers. This evidence based model has been proven to be the most successful approach to ending and preventing homelessness. Through our Housing First programs, we serve people struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, as well as veterans, families, and people coming out of correctional facilities and other institutions. We use a peer-supported alternative approach to mental health in which individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges guide and aid those experiencing similar challenges. From our Community Center that provides peer support in a friendly setting, to our Soteria House which supports people experiencing mental health crises for the first time, to our 7 days/week, non-judgemental phone Support Line, our programs have an immeasurable impact on the everyday lives of our neighbors in need. Since our inception in 2010, Pathways Vermont has succeeded in:

Housing more than 500 individuals, including 180 children
Helping 75 people find employment
Completing 28,842 supportive phone conversations
Preventing 1,122 instances of use of emergency services

September is National Su***de Prevention Month. Start the conversation. Talking openly about su***de reduces stigma and helps people ask for support.

The Vermont Support Line is open 24/7 via call or text and is a free resource for all Vermonters 18+. Different from a crisis helpline or emergency hotline, the Vermont Support Line is a warm line that focuses on interpersonal connection, confidential mental health support, and peer support for a wide range of issues: from the anger you feel after a bad day, to times when you feel alone, to when you need support for substance use, medical concerns, relationship challenges, or thoughts of su***de.

Call or text (833) 888-2557 / (833) VT-TALKS any time of day. We look forward to connecting with you.

A special shoutout to the Lazy Goat Tavern at The Essex Resort & Spa! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ

Throughout August, they supported Pathways Vermont through their Cocktails for Change program. $1 from every special Pathways mocktail and mojito sold all month will directly support participants in our statewide programs.

Creating lasting change takes a community, and we are so grateful for partners like the Essex Resort and Spa who help make a real difference!

Rosewood Cottage is a free, voluntary, short-term, overnight program that provides community-based emotional support and crisis relief in a home-like environment. ๐ŸŒฟ

The program is available to all Vermonters 18 and over, including those who have never utilized mental health services and individuals who have multiple experiences
of hospitalization for mental health.

Rosewood Cottage is a residence for individuals seeking a break from their daily lives and a space for respite and self-care. The house is open 365 days a year, and staff are present and available 24/7. All staff members identify as having their own experiences with difficult times, mental health challenges, or thoughts of dying; team members are available to listen, engage in conversation, participate in activities, or create and share meals.

To learn more and inquire about a stay at Rosewood Cottage, please visit the Rosewood Cottage page on our website (pathwaysvermont.org).

A special shoutout to the United Way of Northwest Vermont and Bombas socks for donating hundreds of socks to support participants working with Pathways Vermont! ๐Ÿ’™

Many of these socks will support our Rural Outreach Team, which provides essential services to help individuals experiencing homelessness stay safe and connected. The team connects individuals experiencing homelessness to essential resources and services, such as getting on housing voucher lists, connecting with primary care doctors, accessing mental health support, and benefits coordination.

Thank you for supporting us to make a difference in our communities!
