Whether you're walking your pup, biking with family, heading downtown for a coffee, exploring local trails, or enjoying one of our parks, the way we move through our community shapes how we experience it. 😍

That's why the Town of South Berwick is developing an Active Transportation Plan to help identify opportunities to improve connections for walking, biking, rolling, and other non-motorized forms of travel throughout our community.🚴

This planning effort will evaluate existing sidewalks, trails, crosswalks, bicycle facilities, and key connections throughout town while helping establish a roadmap for future improvements that support safety, accessibility, and connectivity for residents of all ages and abilities. 🔎🛞

🗣️ This is where you come in! Public input is a critical part of this process and we hope you'll join us at our upcoming Public Workshop to learn more about this effort, ask questions and provide input.

We are hiring!! We are looking for a full-time police officer to join our team. Work four 10-hour shifts with set three days off each week. Lateral transfers are encouraged.

Here is some helpful information regarding electronic bikes, also know as E-bikes. We are also sharing Kennebunk PD's and Camden PD's fliers for your visual enjoyment. Thanks KPD and CPD.

• Electric bicycle: Maine defines an electric bicycle as a 2-wheel or 3-wheel bicycle with fully operable pedals, an electric motor under 750 watts, and class 1, 2, or 3 performance.
• E-bike paperwork: Maine says electric bicycles are not subject to financial responsibility, driver's license, registration, or license plate rules under Title 29-A.
• E-bike path rule: Class 1 and class 2 e-bikes may generally ride where bicycles are allowed unless a local authority says otherwise. Class 3 e-bikes may not use a bicycle path unless that path is specifically authorized for class 3 use.
• Motorized bicycle: Maine defines a motorized bicycle or tricycle separately from an e-bike. It may have pedals, must stay within the state's low-power definition, and may not be operated above 20 mph on the road.
• Motorized bicycle license rule: A Maine motorized bicycle or motorized scooter rider may use any class of valid license, a learner's permit, or a motorcycle or moped endorsement. Maine does not require a special motorcycle-only endorsement for this category.
• Motorized bicycle registration rule: Maine BMV says a motorized bicycle or motorized scooter cannot be registered.
• Moped rule: Maine treats mopeds differently. Mopeds can be registered, and Maine also offers a separate moped license starting at age 16.
• Helmet rule: Riders under 16 on electric bicycles must wear a bicycle helmet. For mopeds, riders under 18 and certain newly licensed or permit holders must wear protective headgear.

UPDATE: Berwick Rd/Route 236 in South Berwick is now open. Lower Main St is still closed at Berwick Rd down to Webster St.

Another road closure notice, we now have to close Main St from the area of Butler St to the Rollinsford line by Fogarty's, and Route 236 to the Berwick line by the railroad tracks. Please plan accordingly. Motorist can use Route 4 to Blackberry Hill Rd to access Berwick. To access Rollinsford, please use Short St off of Route 4 by the Rollinsford Cumberland Farms.

Donations can still be dropped off this week at the police station during their regular business hours or please call 207-384-3080 to make other arrangements.

Reminder that raffle tickets can be purchased at our table next to the Police Department's tent at the Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The drawings and notifications will be done immediately after the festival. Prizes will be available for pick up at the police department during their normal business hours.

We are proud of all of our runners who ran the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maine from the Berwick town line to the Eliot town line today.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: Tuesday, June 2, 2026, approximately 10am-12pm

The South Berwick Police Department is proud to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maine once again.

On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, runners will complete an approximate 4.8 mile run from the Berwick town line on Route 4, through town, to the Eliot town line on Route 236. We ask motorists to use caution and be prepared for delays. The times are approximate as we wait to obtain the torch from other agencies as it makes it way to us.
