Visiting libraries all over Maine? 😍 Yes, please!

To share the power of Maine libraries, the Maine Library Association and the Maine State Library are holding a Library Passport Contest starting September 1st and continuing through the end of the year.

Pick up your passport the next time you're here or get full contest details and download a passport at mainelibraries.org/passport.

Then visit at least one library in each of the sixteen counties in the state and collect either stamps or signatures to verify your visit.

Completed entries can either be mailed to the Maine Library Association at P.O. Box 1993, Portland, ME 04104 or photos of the completed signatures can be emailed to [email protected].

Share your journey using and tag us so we can see all the beautiful Maine libraries you're visiting.

Prizes include drawings to win gift cards to L.L. Bean, Shaws, Briar Patch Books and Toys, Hannaford, Maine Whoopie Pie Festival and more. Not to mention bragging rights and some major . Happy exploring!

It's and we've got a question for our The South Berwick Public Library lovers! What’s the best thing you've discovered because of your library card? 📚

A favorite book? A new hobby? A museum that's always been on your bucket list? A quiet place to get some work done? A story you still remember years later? 🥰

It's pretty amazing when you think about all of the things that little library card can unlock. Tell us your faves in the comments, and maybe you'll inspire a friend or neighbor to visit the library for the first time. 🙌

A library card opens so many possibilities! But to start off Library Card Sign Up Month, let's focus first on our most popular, most well known and definitely beloved service... Getting the books you want to read into your hands!

We've got books for everyone. Kids, teens, adults. Readers of every genre and format: mysteries, thrillers, romances, horrors, historical fiction, poetry, cozy romantasy, hopepunk, audio books, reads a-longs. Whatever you like to read, we've got you covered.

And if we don't have the book you want, we can get it for you from another library... but that's a post for another day.

With so many things on our to-do lists and options for our free time, it can be easy to fall out of the habit of reading. Getting yourself a library card is a great first step to get reading again!

Remember, if you or someone you know doesn't have a library card yet, stop by with an ID (needs your name and street address on it) and we'll get you set up!

📚✨ PSA for your bookshelf: You don't have to wait until next spring to bring home some amazing new (to you) books!

The library has an a Friends Book Sale shelf available all year long, and we accept book donations year-round, too. 💛

Because there is always room for one more book. Even when there absolutely isn't. 😍

It's not just once a year! We all love the Friends of South Berwick Library annual book sale in May, but you don't have to wait until May to get amazing new-to-you books. We have an ongoing book sale shelf at the library all year around.

We accept donations years around too. Please make sure all donated books are in good condition (no mold, please!). We can't accept magazine or textbooks for our book sale. But we are in need of chapter books for ages 8+ and teen books if you have some that you are looking to find new homes for.

📚 Heads up, library lovers!

The library software (MILS) for the The South Berwick Public Library will be receiving an update on Wednesday, July 8, between approximately 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM.

During that time, some online services will be temporarily unavailable, including:

• Searching the MILS catalog
• Placing holds or renewing items online
• Checking out, renewing, or placing holds in CloudLibrary
• Placing holds through MaineCat

The good news? The update is expected to be finished before the library opens at 10:00 AM, so regular library services, including checkout and hold pickup, should not be affected. 😍

If you'd like to confirm everything is back up and running before you stop by, give the library a call Wednesday morning at 207-384-3308.

FYI, this coming Wednesday 7/8, the library's software is being updated. Between approximately 8am and 9:30am on Wednesday morning, our online (MILS) catalog will not be working to locate books, place holds or renew items online. You will also be unable to check-out, renew or place holds on books in CloudLibrary or place holds in MaineCat.

The update should be completed before we open at 10am so it should not affect circulation or hold pick-ups during regular library hours. If you want to double check that we're back up and running, feel free to call the library on Wednesday morning before heading over: 207-384-3308.

Books aren't the only thing you'll discover at the The South Berwick Public Library. 💚

Outdoor play encourages creativity, problem-solving, communication, and social skills; and now our youngest visitors can do all of that on the library lawn with our new play sets. 🤩
