📌 Notary Tip: Corrections on a Document Can Cause Problems Later

Crossed-out information, white-out, overwritten dates, or handwritten changes may cause a document to be questioned or rejected by the person or agency receiving it.

Before your notary appointment, review the document carefully. If you notice corrections or changes, contact the issuing or receiving party to confirm how they want them handled. A notary cannot determine whether an altered document will be legally acceptable to the receiving party.

When possible, arriving with a clean, corrected copy can save you from having to repeat the process later.

New Notaries: The Signing Isn’t Finished Just Because You Used Your Stamp

Before you pack up and leave an appointment, check your notarial certificate one more time.

Make sure:
• The venue is correct
• The date of notarization is accurate
• The signer’s name is entered correctly
• The certificate wording matches the act being performed
• Your signature and seal are complete
• Any required journal entry has been finished

A small certificate mistake can create a big headache later when the document reaches a title company, attorney, court, agency, or other receiving party.

📌 Why Some Documents Require More Than One Notarial Act

One document can sometimes require more than one notarization.

That may happen when:
• More than one signer needs their signature notarized
• Different signatures require different notarial certificates
• The document contains separate sworn statements or acknowledgments
• Signers complete their portions at different times or locations

Each notarial act is completed separately because the notary is verifying the specific signer and the specific act being performed.

So if you see more than one notary section on a document, that does not necessarily mean something is wrong — the document may simply require multiple notarizations.
