💥 Strong leaders are built through training, discipline, and teamwork! 💥

Yesterday, the St. Joseph County Police Cadet Unit stepped onto the mats for an exciting Defensive Tactics Course under the guidance of certified instructors. Cadets learned hands-on self-defense skills, subject control techniques, and how to stay calm, confident, and in control under pressure. 💪🚔

Training like this helps prepare our cadets for future careers in law enforcement while building leadership, discipline, and teamwork right now. 🔥

👏 A special thank you to Corporal Simon Sanchez for assisting with instruction. Corporal Sanchez brings outstanding experience as a former Physical Tactics Instructor in the United States Marine Corps 🇺🇸 and is currently working to join the SJCPD Defensive Tactics Instructor cadre. His knowledge, professionalism, and energy made a huge impact on our cadets.

We appreciate those who continue investing in the next generation of leaders! 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

🚓✨ Thinking About a Future in Law Enforcement? ✨🛼

Being a St. Joseph County Police Cadet is about more than training, uniforms, and service — it’s about becoming part of a team that supports each other on and off duty.

Recently, our cadets spent the evening at Galaxy Roller Rink for a team bonding night, proving that while we train hard and serve our community, we also make time to come together, build friendships, and have fun. These moments strengthen trust, teamwork, and the sense of family that defines our unit.

If you’re looking for mentorship, leadership development, hands-on experience, and a group of people who push each other to be better — the Cadet Unit might be the perfect fit for you.

🎄✨ St. Joseph County Police Cadet Program | Christmas Party & Year in Review ✨🎄

This week, our Cadet Program came together to celebrate the season and reflect on an incredible year at our annual Christmas party. The night was filled with great food, plenty of desserts, and even better company — a well-earned chance to relax and enjoy time together as a team.

Beyond the celebration, we took time to look back on everything we accomplished this year and conducted a full year in review, recognizing growth, challenges, and successes. Just as importantly, we built a clear plan for the year ahead, setting goals and expectations to keep pushing ourselves forward in 2026.

Teamwork was a major focus of the evening. Cadets participated in a physical team-building activity, followed by open conversations about our personal lives, future goals, and motivations. These moments help strengthen our bond, build trust, and ensure we continue to hold each other accountable — not just as cadets, but as people.

We also proudly recognized leadership within our ranks with the promotion of two outstanding cadets. Congratulations to Cadet Corporal Samya and Cadet Corporal Carter on earning their new roles. Your dedication, work ethic, and leadership have not gone unnoticed, and we look forward to seeing you continue to set the standard.

As we close out the year, we’re grateful for the growth, camaraderie, and commitment shown by every cadet. The future is bright, and we’re ready for what’s next. 💙👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

🚨 Cadet Spotlight | Meet Cadet Kenny 🚨

We’re proud to introduce Cadet Kenny, a dedicated member of the St. Joseph County Police Cadet Program who brings commitment, experience, and a true heart for service to our team.

Before the St. Joseph County Police Explorer Program transitioned into today’s Cadet Program, Kenny proudly served as a Police Explorer, continuing his journey seamlessly into the Cadet Program when it was established. His path reflects growth, adaptability, and a long-standing dedication to law enforcement.

Kenny’s passion for service started early and has only grown stronger. As a soldier in the Indiana National Guard and a cadet with both St. Joseph County Police and South Bend Police, he’s learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and stepping up when the community needs it most. The Cadet Program has further strengthened that passion by providing hands-on training, mentorship, and the opportunity to learn directly from officers he hopes to one day serve alongside.

🗣 “The cadet program has strengthened my passion for policing by giving me hands-on training and mentorship. It’s helped me build confidence, learn new skills, and be part of a team that feels like a second family.”

📚 College Year: Sophomore
🏋️ Hobbies: Working out, listening to music, gaming
🚸 Extracurricular: Crossing guard for SBCSC elementary school

Kenny is a great example of how the Cadet Program prepares motivated individuals not only for a career in law enforcement, but for meaningful service within their community. We’re proud to have him on the team! 👏🚔

🎄 2025 Christmas With Cops – Spreading Holiday Cheer! 🎁

This weekend, our St. Joseph County Police Cadets had the incredible opportunity to take part in the annual Christmas with Cops event, coordinated by the St. Joseph County Police Department and made possible through the generosity of our amazing community donors.

Alongside our officers, the cadets helped bring Christmas magic to children from the YWCA shelter—sharing smiles, stories, and a whole lot of holiday spirit. From picking out presents during the shopping trip, to enjoying a warm meal together, to simply spending time connecting with the kids, our cadets poured their hearts into making this day special.

Seeing them interact, laugh, and lift up others is what this season is all about. ❤️💙

We’re incredibly proud of the example they set and the joy they helped spread. Thank you to everyone who supports this program and helps make moments like these possible.

✨ Merry Christmas from the St. Joseph County Police Cadet Unit! 🎅🎁🎄

🚔💫 CADET SPOTLIGHT: AXEL 💫🚔
Meet one of our dedicated members of the St. Joseph County Police Cadet Program!

Today, we’re excited to introduce Cadet Axel, a motivated freshman in college who brings determination, discipline, and a clear vision for his future in law enforcement.

🥋 Focused. Active. Committed.
“I’m a white belt in jiu jitsu and like to take a run from time to time.”

Axel’s dedication to staying active — both mentally and physically — reflects the mindset of someone committed to serving and protecting.

🎓 Aiming High in His Career
“I’m determined to pursue a career in law enforcement because I want to help those in need and serve my community. My goal is to become an FBI agent…”

🚓 Why the Cadet Program Matters to Him
“…and the cadet program can definitely help with this goal. The cadet program is so amazing. I got to meet such wonderful people and have two of the best mentors out there.”

Through training, mentorship, and real-world perspective, Axel is building the foundation he needs for a future in federal law enforcement.

📘 Learning, Growing, and Recommending the Experience
“This program taught me so many things I need to know to become a future police officer, and I would definitely recommend those who are interested in law enforcement to join the program.”

His enthusiasm for learning and his commitment to service make him an incredible asset to the unit.

🌟 Proud to Have You on the Team, Axel
Axel’s focus, ambition, and willingness to push himself set a strong example for new cadets and future recruits. We’re excited to see where his journey leads — and proud to be a part of it.

🚔⭐ CADET SERGEANT SPOTLIGHT ⭐🚔
Meet one of the leaders helping shape the future of the St. Joseph County Police Cadet Program!

Today we’re proud to introduce our Cadet Sergeant, a driven and dedicated sophomore from the Class of 2028 who brings passion, curiosity, and leadership to everything they do.

💭 A Lifelong Interest in Law Enforcement
“I have always been curious about law enforcement. My grandfather was a South Bend officer, as well as an EMT and eventually the chief at the St. Joseph County Airport Authority Department of Public Safety.”

📘 Why the Cadet Program Matters
“The program has been invaluable to me. I'm learning skills I would never learn outside of it, and it's a good introduction—or crash course—into the world of law enforcement.”

Their enthusiasm for the program is matched only by their commitment to learning everything they can.

“I would recommend it to anyone who has even a modicum of interest in learning more about law enforcement. There's no better place to learn.”

👪 Inspired by Family
“My role model would probably be my Nana. She's such a positive influence on my life and she is the example of the adult I strive to live up to..”

This foundation of support and inspiration shows in their leadership and character.

🏊 Student-Athlete & Competitor
“Outside of the unit, I'm a swimmer. I swim butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke in competition. This is my second year swimming for my school, and I love it so much! It's a lot of work, but it's definitely worth it.”

🎭 Passion Behind the Scenes
“I also work backstage a lot—technical theater is one of my big passions. Outside of school, the unit, or the pool, you can find me in the auditorium pulling ropes in the fly rail or running a spotlight.”

This mix of athletics, technical skill, and leadership makes our Cadet Sergeant a standout in every environment.

🎖️ Proud to Lead
“I'm so glad to be a member of the unit and proud to be the sergeant!”

We’re proud too. Our program thrives because of leaders like this—young people who step forward, take initiative, and set the tone for their fellow cadets.

Keep leading with confidence and pride, Sergeant. The future is bright. 👏

🚓💼 Promotion interviews for our Cadets! 💼🚓

This week, four of our St. Joseph County Police Cadets stepped up in a big way as they interviewed for the position of Cadet Corporal — and we couldn’t be more proud of each of them.

The promotion process isn’t just about rank. It’s about building real interview skills, developing the confidence to communicate under pressure, and learning how to present yourself with professionalism — skills they’ll carry far beyond the Cadet Program and into future careers.

It also shows something even more important: commitment, leadership, and the drive to grow. All four cadets came prepared, showed excellent maturity, and represented the unit with pride.

No matter the outcome, they each did a fantastic job and proved once again why the future of law enforcement — and our community — is in great hands.

✨ A huge thank-you to the St. Joseph County Police Department Traffic Unit! ✨

Recently, our Cadets had the incredible opportunity to learn directly from the experts who keep our roads safe every single day. The Traffic Unit spent the evening breaking down their roles, demonstrating the tools of the job, and emphasizing the life-saving importance of traffic safety — because at the end of the day, speed kills, and every decision on the road matters.

From collision investigations to enforcement strategies and what it truly takes to maintain safety on our county’s busiest streets, the Cadets gained valuable insight they’ll carry forward in their development as future law enforcement professionals.

We appreciate the Traffic Unit taking the time to invest in the next generation and for continuing to set the standard for professionalism and community service. 🚔💡

Thank you for your dedication and for an outstanding presentation!
