The team was started in 2001 and is comprised of 86 members from seven area fire departments, Clay Fire Territory, Mishawaka FD, City of Niles (MI) FD, Notre Dame FD, Penn Township FD, South Bend FD and Warsaw FD. Our purpose is to provide a regional search and rescue capability and respond to major incidents where Tactical Rescue skills and equipment are necessary to save lives.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) activated at 12 p.m. today to coordinate the state's response to the incoming winter storm.

This activation brings additional subject matter experts from other state agencies and external partners into one location to facilitate an effective, direct and coordinated response to the winter storm impacting the state.

Governor Mike Braun also activated highway assistance teams from the Indiana National Guard to respond to some areas expecting dangerous road conditions as a result of the storm.

IDHS encourages all Hoosiers to do their part to prepare for the storm. Visit GetPrepared.in.gov for winter storm travel and safety tips.
