The City of South Bend is joining everyone around the nation in commemorating Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day and Freedom Day.
On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom and the Civil War had ended by federal troops in Galveston, Texas. Today, the City of South Bend is celebrating our African American community and culture.
Juneteenth officially became a holiday in South Bend on April 25, 2022.
