On Saturday, May 16th residents from the South Bend Community Re Entry Center hosted a community bed build with their families, Granger Community Church, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Together we were able to build 50 beds for children in need from local communities

South Bend Community Re Entry Center wrapped up Corrections Week celebrating the team and recognizing individuals for their stellar performance and leadership while enjoying burgers, dogs, and other deliciousness. Shout out to Jeanna from Granger Community Church for providing the team with some amazing desserts!!!!

South Bend Community Reentry Center started off their Corrections Week celebration with staff enjoying a hot biscuits and gravy breakfast for K and H brackets prepared by Case Worker Sanderson and Deputy Warden Hamilton. Throughout the day staff enjoyed wearing their favourite May the Fourth be with You and superhero shirts while participating in bring your dog to work day! A good time was had by all!

On Saturday, April 18th, Unity Gardens hosted an Earth Day event. As part of the day’s activities, they honoured the South Bend Community Re-Entry Center with the Hope for the Future award. SBW was recognized for its partnership with Unity Gardens and commitment to volunteerism by both staff and residents. Deputy Warden Ron Hamilton was thrilled to accept the award on the Re-entry Center’s behalf. Thank you Unity Gardens Inc.!

The South Bend Community Re-Entry Center offers our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Correctional Officer Dustin Pedigo of the Tennessee Department of Correction who was killed in the line of duty.

Correctional Officer Dustin Pedigo, 35, was killed in the line of duty at the Morgan County Correctional Complex.

The South Bend Community Re-Entry Center team visited Goodwill Industries to give a great big “Thank You” to Tim Abbott for his dedication to improving our communities through his service and partnership with the re-entry center. The team was able to get a tour and an update on all the progress the re-entry center men have made in the industries division. Several of the men are designing and building yard barns, tiny houses, and chicken coups amongst other things. Under Tim’s leadership and encouragement, the men are putting their skills and creativity to work in ways that are nothing short of impressive. They have created an entire line of unique furniture pieces from broken and worn tables, desks, and other items. Tim explains that these items would have been discarded in the past. We are now turning them into attractive and functional home decor. They have expanded the department throughout many of Goodwill’s locations. The pieces are of good taste and quality selling well in the stores. There is also a line of sea glass items that are quite popular. Warden Charles Bowen presented Tim with a Warden’s challenge coin.

Iron Sharpens Iron is back. ISI is a group of formerly incarcerated individuals who volunteer their time to come back into the facilities and talk to those who are preparing for their reentry. Bits of wisdom and lots of practical advise help motivate our residents and keep them on track to becoming successful returning citizens.
