Nature At The Confluence

Nature At The Confluence Connect with nature where the Rock River and Turtle Creek meet. Welcome to Nature at The Confluence! We are an urban environmental center that opened in 2017.

We invite you to stop in for a visit to discover nature right in the middle of an urban area! We’re located on property surrounded by the Rock River, Turtle Creek and Kelly Creek, and you’ll find scenic beauty during every season. The campus offers a 5-acre prairie restoration, learning gardens, pollinator gardens and we have programs throughout the year for all ages and interests!

Thank you to Dr. Brittney Keyes from and from Matt Harvey from the Utility Board for being a part of the Data Center Information Session last night. They provided really helpful information about the impact of data centers on community health and our utility bills.

The presentation from last night and other resources about the local data center can be found at https://rockforddatacenter.seversondells.org/.

A few action items that came from the event:

1) Sign the petition for the City of Rockford to enact a moratorium on data centers: https://c.org/s9YXy7hT9T

2) Attend Lobby Day on Saturday, May 30th: https://ilenviro.org/iec-lobby-days/

3) POWER Act- send a message to your State Rep in support of the POWER Act: act.ilenviro.org/a/poweract **

** We acknowledge that there are some challenges with the POWER Act, but it's a good starting point.

Thank you to all of the partners that made this happen- Nature at the Confluence, Sustain Rockford, Friends of the Illinois Nature Preserves, Illinois Environmental Council, Illinois Sierra Club, and Sinnissippi Audubon

Today was an extra special Wednesday Work Day. We said goodbye to Julia Weber, our Beloit College Fellow, with a celebratory trip to Dari Ripple. Julia graduates this weekend and has secured a job as an Environmental Educator in her home state of Minnesota!

In addition to spreading fresh mulch on our trails and removing invasive weeds, our volunteers listened to a description of Nature At The Confluence read by a Ho-Chunk elder in the Ho-Chunk language. Thank you to Visit Beloit for creating the incredible resource of the visitor's guide fully in Ho-Chunk. You can read and listen at: https://visitbeloit.com/visitor-guides/
