Happy Flag Day! On June 14, 1777, Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. On June 14, 1877, the first Flag Day was observed on the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes. Several states continued the observance of Flag Day after that and in 1949, Congress officially designated June 14 as Flag Day.

Switching to water-efficient appliances not only helps protect our environment, but it can also save you money over time. Look for the WaterSense logo on products to know that they are EPA-certified water efficient.

Here’s how much you can save each year by upgrading to WaterSense models:
💧2,700 gallons by replacing old shower heads
💧700 gallons by upgrading faucets and aerators
💧13,000 gallons by replacing inefficient toilets

Small changes at home can lead to big environmental impacts. Let’s all do our part to conserve water and reduce energy use!

Today, May 30, 2026, is International Day of Potato. Did you know that the name Apopka comes from the Seminole word “Ahapopka,” meaning “potato eating place”? Other translations are “big potato” or “potato-eating people.” For Apopkans, this global observance not only highlights the importance of potatoes in food security and agriculture, but also honors our city’s unique connection to this important crop.

What’s your favorite way to eat potatoes?
