Good morning!
I am sharing this graphic from Greg Bostwick showing a snapshot of sleet, freezing rain, and rain anticipated around daybreak tomorrow.
All preparedness activities ahead of Winter Storm Fern should be completed today, and I recommend doing so by dark. Temperatures are falling and will continue doing so throughout the day.
Travel will become dangerous sometime overnight and remain that way through tomorrow or longer (worst case scenario, through Tuesday). I recommend staying off the roads after this eveningβIβm not going to put a time on that, but as a rule of thumb, I plan to stay off the roads after the temperature reaches about 39Β° due to ice forming on overpasses and bridges soon thereafter (structures freeze faster - air circulation above and below them causes loss of heat faster than ground level roadways).
See my earlier posts from this week for preparedness tips. Follow our Hardin County Emergency Management page for more information. I will be posting additional information here periodically throughout the day and the days ahead.
Bottom line here is: Prepare for the worst (widespread power outages that could last a while, extreme cold temperatures with wind chills in single digits at times, falling limbs and power lines due to heavy ice and winds gusting into the 30s!), while praying for the best. π
