Tonight's the night. We look forward to seeing you.
Did you know that Mountain offers a one-of-a-kind “pre-Middle School” program that gives students a softer start to the rigorous demands of middle school? Students have two teachers, one for Math and Science and another for Language Arts and Social Science. Having two teachers helps students learn to manage different classroom environments and expectations, before they need to move between multiple different teachers every day. It also challenges them to keep track of their materials, assignments, and due dates in a structured yet supportive environment where many safety nets remain.
Mountain Elementary’s, unique 5th/6th grade program is designed to support this critical stage in your child's educational journey. They are learning to be independent but still need a lot of love and support. Research shows that students in 5th and 6th grade benefit from aligned curriculum and instructional strategies tailored to their developmental needs, leading to improved academic outcomes and increased engagement. Our program focuses on building resilience and social skills, promoting healthy relationships among peers, and fostering a supportive classroom environment. Not only that, but students learn in small class settings with the added support of a Wellness Coordinator, Academic Intervention and many other personalized services you only get in a small school setting.
As you plan for the next few years of your student’s education, we encourage you to think about Mountain’s 5th and 6th grade as a two year experience that builds confidence and skills that will help your students transition to 7th grade leaps and bounds ahead of their peers, ready to succeed academically and emotionally in middle school and beyond. We invite you to start sharing this plan with your students now. No doubt they are already chatting about Middle School, where they might go, etc. Students will get more out of the experience if they see it as a two-year growth opportunity.
We invite you to learn more about the exciting opportunities that await your child in our 5th an 6th grades by attending our Parent Night on March 3 at 6 p.m.in the PAC. This event will provide an overview of our program and curriculum, introduce you to our dedicated 5/6 team, and allow you to ask any questions you may have. We’ll have 6th grade alumni parents on hand to share their experiences with 6th grade at Mountain, and MESD’s counselor will also share about the benefits of completing elementary school through 6th grade.
