❄️Winter Weather Road Hazards❄️

🚨 WINTER WEATHER UPDATE – TRAVEL DISCOURAGED 🚨

Since the winter weather event began, surrounding counties have assisted motorists, many of whom were stranded due to icy road conditions. First Responders have also responded to multiple motor vehicle collisions, including rollover accidents, caused by unsafe speeds for current road conditions all over the state.

🚫 Travel remains strongly discouraged unless absolutely necessary. Roads continue to be slick and hazardous with areas of solid ice.

If you must drive:
• Slow down well below posted speeds
• Increase following distance
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Accelerate and brake gently
• Use extra caution at intersections, bridges, and overpasses

Our First Responder Agencies will continue working to keep the community safe. Please help us by avoiding travel when possible.

Stay safe, Choctaw County . ❄️🚑

⚠️ Generator Safety Reminder: ⚠️
During power outages, generators can be a helpful resource—but they must be used safely to protect your family, home, and our linemen.

✅ Always operate generators outdoors only, at least 20 feet away from doors, windows, and vents
✅ Never run a generator inside a home, garage, basement, or near open windows
✅ Allow generators to cool before refueling
✅ Use heavy-duty extension cords rated for outdoor use
✅ Install and maintain carbon monoxide detectors in your home
✅ Follow all manufacturer instructions carefully
Improper use of generators can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, fire hazards, and electrical shock. Please take these precautions seriously to keep everyone safe.

If you have questions or concerns - contact Choctaw Electric at 800-780-6486.
