Today, our crew provided mutual aid to the Cloverdale Fire Protection District and Northern Sonoma County Fire District for a public assist involving a horse in distress.

We were able to carefully reposition the horse, which had been down for quite some time and was suffering from advanced arthritis. After lifting the animal to see if it could stand, our on-scene vet conducted a thorough examination. Sadly, it revealed a life-threatening injury, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize.

While we are heartbroken by the outcome, we are grateful for the chance to help and give this horse every opportunity possible. 💔🐴Sonoma Valley Fire District

This past week our team was requested by Yolo County Animal Services Shelter to assist with a horse that was fell through a 22 inch opening in an abandoned grain silo. With mutual aid requests from UC Davis - Large Animal Clinic - Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, North Valley Animal Disaster Group, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and Yolo Fire a successful rescue occurred. Great collaboration between response groups that frequently train together to perform a difficult rescue. Matsie the mare was thankful to be out and play again with her friends. Sonoma Valley Fire District responds their team throughout the area to assist with animal rescues. This picture shows our unique equipment, the animal tripod, which was critically needed on this rescue and donated by Halter Project.
