Well, we are still in "wait mode" here at the Courthouse while they are still working inside. I've been obtaining furniture while we tap our toes. I've found several really wonderful, time-period pieces but this is absolutely the most exciting find!
This will be the Judge's Bench. In the 20's the term bench usually meant desk or table. Unless you were in a large, affluent city, Courthouses were simple.
I was ecstatic to find this desk with all the 1820's hallmarks. Bear in mind that this piece is over 200 years old! She's a bit rough in places, the drawers have been taped together, and a little trim is missing. We have a master woodworker repairing drawers, matching trim and making small restorations, but 98% of the desk will be original!

We are finally able to obtain furniture for the courtroom!
American Empire 1800-1840 is the era we are locating, but not too ornate as Alabama was considered the “Wild West” and fancy we were not!
