Rotary club of Branchburg and Rotary club of Somerville/Bridgewater join forces for amazing results:

“On behalf of every member of the Rotary Club of Somerville and Bridgewater and the Rotary Club of Branchburg, we extend our deepest thanks for your incredible support of our Winter Coat Campaign. Your generosity is more than a donation—it is a lifeline, a gesture of hope, and a testament to the power of community.

So often, people give without ever seeing the true impact of their kindness. Thanks to you, we witnessed firsthand how your compassion changed lives. Two Rotary clubs joined forces, sharing a $2,000 grant dedicated to purchasing children’s coats and winter accessories. We reached out to local school districts, asking administrators to help us identify students in need. What happened next was both humbling and inspiring.

No one could have predicted the overwhelming number of children who needed coats. One school representative reached out before our order even arrived, urgently requesting four coats for children who came to school in freezing temperatures without any protection. Because of you, we were able to respond immediately, purchasing coats from a local retailer so those children would be warm that very day. Just a week later, we placed an online bulk order for 744 coats—ranging from size 2T to Adult/Youth ### Large—at a cost of $8,180. Each coat represented a child whose winter would be safer and warmer because of your kindness.

This remarkable purchase was only possible because of your unwavering commitment to our vision: to wrap as many children as possible in warmth and care. Your support allowed us to reach four local school districts—Branchburg, Somerville, Bridgewater/Raritan, and Manville—and respond to the unique needs of their students. Every dollar you gave helped us fulfill our mission. Your thoughtfulness even enabled us to extend our reach to non-profit organizations caring for children, including local churches, women’s shelters, foster care group homes, and Jack’s Kids, which supports children facing serious illness or disability. And we are not finished yet.

Through online donations and personal checks from friends and foundations, we raised a total of $15,200. Beyond the bulk coat purchase, we continued to buy coats in sizes requested that were no longer in our inventory. Today, we still have $5,155 available from this campaign, and we are already planning additional purchases to help winterize the youth in our community—if not this year, then next. Scarves, gloves, hats, boots—all are being considered. Every cent will go toward keeping children in our community safe and warm through the coldest months.

None of this would have been possible without your generous donation and your belief in our Rotary Clubs’ mission. We listened to the needs expressed by each school district and quickly realized that our initial grant was just the beginning. As more funds came in, we were able to fulfill every school’s request and reach out to even more organizations whose children needed help.
When I say “we,” I truly mean all of us. Your donation created an extraordinary and unexpected ripple of kindness. It proves that even a small contribution can go a long way when a community comes together. The true power lies not in the size of any single donation, but in the strength of our collective effort. Thank you to everyone who understands this simple truth—it truly does take a village.”
