The Morris County Republican political machine this year came up with the right mix for the Morris County Commissioner primary.
It’s a blend of experiences, with veteran Commissioner Douglas Cabana of Boonton Township having the institutional memory of what works and what doesn’t, Mendham Township residents Christine Myers, a former freeholder, and Sara Neibart, former Mendham Township mayor who is a member of the Township Committee bringing them corporate and federal experience – Myers – and governance on the local level – Neibart.
The two other Republicans running offline for the three, three-year seats expiring this year are first-time candidate Joseph Coppola of Succasunna and incumbent Thomas Mastrangelo of Montville Township, who did not receive the party line on the ballot from his peers.
Coppola, a sheriff’s officer in another county, has no previous political experience but has an understanding as to how county government works. He has ideas that would sync with the present dais’s fiscal conservative philosophy and, like those on today’s dais, is a great supporter of first responders and law enforcement.
In fact, there’s a lot to like about him. We just think the dais continues to need open-minded and even-tempered political veterans who have already weathered crises like the pandemic and understand how the relationship between county and local government works.
Note that we said the dais needed “open-minded and even-tempered political veterans.”
Cabana, Myers and Neibart are solid public servants who walk the talk when it comes to bonding with their constituents. On Tuesday, June 7, vote Douglas Cabana, Christine Myers and Sarah Neibart for Morris County Commissioner.
