History Continues at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage!

The Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage Association is marking an important transition with both gratitude and excitement as we thank Paul Soltis for his years of service and welcome Joseph Salt as the sites’ new historian.

Paul leaves a lasting legacy through his work advancing rehabilitation funding, expanding research and interpretation, creating engaging public programs, and strengthening partnerships throughout the community. We are deeply grateful for all he has done for these treasured historic sites and wish him every success in his new role at Rockingham State Historic Site, General Washington’s final wartime headquarters in 1783.

We are also delighted to welcome Joe Salt, a Seton Hall University history graduate with previous experience at Twin Lights State Historic Site. Joe is already stepping into rehabilitation-related projects, artifact archiving, and educational programming as preparations continue for the 250th anniversary of General Washington’s headquarters at Wallace House in 2028–2029.

Out of an abundance of caution for our visitors, staff, exhibitors, and vendors Somerset County’s History on the Green event, scheduled for July 18, 2026, has been cancelled due to the severe forecasted weather and current air quality advisories.

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary and all who fought for our country, Pvt. Moore (Brian Thehistorynerd) read the names of Revolutionary War soldiers from the area, some of whom are buried in Somerville’s Old Cemetery.

Thank you to the Somerville Historic Advisory Committee for their research in compiling this list.
