At 8:22 this morning, The Somerville Fire Department was requested for an engine into South Bound Brook to cover while they operated at a structure fire. Engine 57-1 and Chief 57 responded and stood by for about an hour before being released. A nice stop by South Bound Brook and all the members on the scene.

Last night, probationary member, Nicole Fox graduated from The Somerset County Fire Academy’s firefighter 1 program after putting in 260 hours of classroom and hands on work. She was chosen by her class to speak and she gave very heartfelt words on why she wanted to be a firefighter and her experiences in the class. Chief and Deputy 57 attended the ceremony. We are very proud of her accomplishment and look forward to seeing her at the next alarm!🚒🔥🇺🇸

Last night at 8:30 pm, the Somerville Fire Department was dispatched to a report of wires and a pole down on West end Ave. Chief and Deputy57, Engine 57-1 and Ladder 57 arrived and blocked the road. PSE&G was called to the scene. Somerset County Haz-Mat was called for an oil spill from the Transformers on the ground. DOT was called as this stretch of road is Rt 28. OEM and FM -18 were requested to the scene as the Senior Citizens Building was without power. Power was restored to most of the area within 1 hour and the scene was Turned over to PSE&G, PD, and DOT. The pole fails on its own, no vehicles were involved. Engine 57-3 responded to and elevator entrapment on North Bridge St while this scene was going on. A great effort by many agencies during a unique situation.
