The Mayor's Commission to Redesign and Reimagine the Somersworth School District is inviting residents to help shape the future of Somersworth's public schools through a three-part community engagement series. The kickoff event, "The Future of Somersworth Schools: Permission to Think Outside the Box," takes place Wednesday, September 16th from 6:00–7:00 p.m. at Idlehurst Elementary School, with no RSVP required, and childcare and light refreshments provided. The series continues with a hands-on brainstorming session on September 23rd, featuring small-group discussions on facilities, community partnerships, K-8 redesign, and a reimagining of our high school. The series then wraps up on October 7th.

Chaired by Superintendent John Shea and formed at Mayor Matt Gerding's initiative, the Commission is tackling questions that go beyond incremental fixes — considering how Somersworth might need to fundamentally rethink its schools in the face of statewide pressures like open enrollment, school vouchers, and tax caps. Organizers describe the sessions as judgment-free spaces where every idea is welcome, with proposals expected to come forward in time for the 2027 budget season.

Road Resurfacing Work Planned for
Nash Parkway, Myrtle Street, Morning Street & Hanson Street

The City of Somersworth road paving contractor, GMI Asphalt, will be on-site Tuesday, September 8, through Friday, September 11, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., to begin pavement milling road edges, shimming, and structure replacement work. Paving operations are anticipated to begin the week of September 14.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and intermittent impacts while this work is underway and are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible. Traffic control personnel and appropriate signage will be in place. Please use caution and allow additional travel time when traveling through the area. Temporary on- street parking will be restricted during specific work operations. Typical work schedule will be from 7am to 4pm.

🗳Primary Election Reminder: Ward 5 Voting Location 🗳
The Ward 5 polling location for the September 8th State Primary Election will be the Charpentier Apartments Community Room, 28 Franklin Street. The new location was selected to provide a better voting experience for residents by offering improved parking availability, enhanced pedestrian safety, better lighting, and increased accessibility for voters with mobility impairments.

♻Metal Pick-up ♻



The Department of Public Works reminds residents that metal pick up occurs on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. The September collection will occur on Tuesday, September 8 and residents wanting this service are asked to call Public Works no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, September 4th to be placed on the pickup schedule for September. Participants are reminded to place the proper number of tags on the item when setting the item out on the street for collection. Residents may also opt to drop off metal and electronic items with proper bulky waste stickers at the Public Works Facility located at 18 Lilac Lane from 7:30am-2:30pm Monday–Friday.
