Just after midnight this morning, a strong line of storms pushed through the area. Calls for wires down on fire began coming in for Distrct 3. Engine 272 took in the first call for service wires down on fire next to the residence while Engine 251 began responding to a second call for a wire down on fire when cleared the air with an urgent message for a building collapse on Cooper Ave. Engine 251 redirected to this incident. Engine 251 arrived followed in by Squad 27 with Chief 25 as command. A large portion of a tree struck the structure causing structural damage to the family room, requiring shoring. Technical Rescue 257, Tech Trailer 25, and Rescue 25 called in service. The crew of Squad 27 secured power to the affected room and began removing the remaining portions of the tree from the roof. Engine 253 responded bringing in extra wood. Rescue jacks and wood were utilized to capture the load of the roof, an approximate 18” drop was caused by the falling tree. Measurements were taken and a wood shoring system was put into place. This was inspected by the Franklin Township Building Offical and was approved. Our rescue jacks were removed and the scene was turned back over to the homeowner who was able to reoccupy the home. 14 members were on scene for this operation. car 27 and engine 272 handled multiple other calls for service, and Ladder 27 stood by in quarters to cover any additional calls for service. Well done everyone!
