April is National Poetry Month, a wonderful time to explore the rhythm, rhyme, and musical magic of language.

Poetry helps young children hear sounds, notice patterns, and play with words in ways that build strong early reading skills.

Try this simple activity together this week. Finish these springtime rhymes.

I see a bunny hopping by.
He jumps up fast and leaps so ________

The sun is warm. The sky is blue.
I love to read a book with ________

Raindrops fall and splash around.
I jump in puddles on the ________

There is no right answer. Just have fun making silly rhymes together.

National Reading Month is the perfect time to refresh your reading routine.

Try one small shift this week:
✔ Let your child turn the pages
✔ Pause to talk about the pictures
✔ Ask what they think happens next

Reading is more than words on a page. It’s connection, conversation, and confidence-building all at once.

Pulaski County Imagination Library

In 1995, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee--Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by giving each child one free, age-appropriate book per month from birth until they start school. Now, towns and cities across the world operating as affiliates of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, provide free books to children in their local communities.

Launched in 2013, the Pulaski County Imagination Library has provided over 68,000 books to children in Pulaski County, Kentucky, supporting early literacy and inspiring the love of reading in our youngest citizens.
