The fire service lost one of our own on March 16, 2026, with the tragic line of duty death of Chicago Firefighter Mike Altman. A reminder that this job demands everything, and sometimes takes everything.

Across the country, we wear different patches, but we stand on the same line. When one falls, we all feel it. Keep Firefighter Altman’s family, friends, and department in your thoughts as they face the days ahead.

PUBLIC NOTICE - MEETING CHANGE DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

Commissioners of Fire District No. 1.
Franklin Township, Somerset County

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER - The regular meeting originally scheduled for
Monday, February 23 at the Middlebush Firehouse IS CANCELLED.

The meeting will now be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Middlebush
Firehouse – 21 Olcott Street, Somerset . The agenda meeting will start at 7:15PM and the
regular meeting will start at 8PM.

The board may be going into Executive Session at any of these meetings.

Fire District No. 1 Annual Election & Budget Vote — February 21, 2026

The Board of Fire Commissioners of Franklin Township Fire District No. 1 announces that the
Annual Fire District Election and Budget Vote will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Polls will be open from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at designated polling locations throughout the
District.

At this election, voters will be asked to:
• Elect Two (2) Commissioners to serve three-year terms
• Vote on the proposed Fire District Budget

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Raymond Albert Fischer.

Raymond was a dedicated member of our fire service family and a longtime supporter of the community. His service, leadership, and commitment — particularly with the East Franklin Fire Department and later the Middlebush Fire Department — left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know and serve alongside him.

Please keep the Fischer family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

This past Friday members of Elizabeth Avenue, Millstone Valley and Somerset Fire & Rescue graduated from Firefighter I and II at The Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy.

Franklin Fire District No.1 Completes Annual Equipment Testing

This past week, the four fire companies that comprise the Franklin Fire District No.1 (Elizabeth Ave., Millstone Valley, Middlebush Volunteer, Somerset Fire) successfully completed their annual inspections and testing of water hoses, SCBA air packs, aerial and ground ladders, and water pumps. All testing was conducted in full compliance with NFPA standards to ensure our equipment remains in top working condition. These important tests help guarantee the continued safety of our members as they provide life and property saving services to the residents and businesses located in Franklin Township Fire District No.1.

A special thank-you to the Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Company for providing a location for the majority of the equipment testing.

WORK SESSION MEETING –
October 15th, 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Commissioners of Fire District No. 1, Franklin Township,
Somerset County, NJ, will be having a work session meeting on Wednesday, October 15th,
beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the District Office, 370 Campus Drive, Suite 102, Somerset, New
Jersey.

This will be a meeting to plan the district budget.

The board may be going into Executive Session at this meeting.
