Most during Memorial Day would be grilling, beaching, enjoying the time off. Perhaps we could use this rainy day as a time to reflect on what Memorial Day actually is, those that lost their loved ones in action so we could be free.
Elizabeth Avenue always thanks those who are serving or served in the military, but especially today we honor those who cannot be here with us today 🫡🇺🇸

A few calls, some training, mix in great discussions with some zest of camaraderie and pizza. You have a recipe for a great duty crew night!

Last night’s training after the quick storm we had was truck company training. We then proceeded to have some great discussions of ideas and different ways to operate in different scenarios. Strong work as always!

Another year, another Police Unity Tour. With Ladder 26 flying the colors of course, and we’re proud of it 😉

Police from all over the country participate in this bike ride to the police memorial in Washington DC to honor the sacrifices of those who served, but cannot be with us today. We wish them all the best on their ride!

Sunday Elizabeth Avenue responded to a tractor trailer roll over off 287 with Engine 26-1 and Hazmat support. Later that evening companies were dispatched for a reported structure fire off Jockey Hollow Trail.

ITS FRIDAYYYY!!

Today we highlight Douglass Colon. He started in May 2023 to be with his Dad (who we highlighted previously). While his Dad has done some pretty great things, especially in the company, Doug set out to create a path of his own. After finishing Fire 1, he took off with classes and continued to learn. In fact, he is of a few in the company that hold his certifications and is able to work with NJ Forest Fire Service.

Words of advice Doug gives to those coming in is to “Be a sponge and don’t ever stop learning. You have endless opportunities to learn something new anytime you step into the firehouse.” Further, Doug took time out to do some learning on his own while he was going through Fire 1. He says that learning fire behavior was rough for me as he wasn’t grasping the concepts, but he says proudly that he was able to hit the books and teach himself in ways that he would get it, and he now will never forget all he learned 👏👏👏, that’s dedication!
