Video of last night’s Franklin Town Council meeting. The council passed ordinance which restricts warehouses and bans data centers. As I mentioned before , I support banning data centers and thank the council for doing that! But I want to respond to something else I heard. In response to criticisms that we have too many ma*****na dispensaries ( currently have 21 dispensaries ), Councilman Carl Wright seemed to downplay the concerns that young people might have access to ma*****na, he seemed to indicate that Franklin’s dispensaries are selling mostly to out-of-towners who come to Franklin to buy ma*****na, and then they leave town. And that argument is supposed to justify having 21 dispensaries? What kind of morality is that? So if people come to Franklin to buy ma*****na from any one of our 21 dispensaries , according to his logic, it’s ok as long as they live in other towns? And as for the tax revenue, latest reports show the town is making about $800,000 tax revenue annually from all these dispensaries. That may seem like a lot, until you consider it is not even one -tenth the amount the town will spend to build Catalpa Park ($8.3 million). - Jim Johnston

Franklin Township Council Work Session/Regular Meeting June 9, 2026

06/09/2026

Tonight, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Franklin Township Council will hold an important meeting at the Franklin Township Municipal Building, 475 DeMott Lane.
The Council will vote on the second reading of an Ordinance that would once again allow warehouse development in the Business & Industry (B-I) Zone.
Franklin Township has already seen more than 6 million square feet of warehouse space approved since 2018. Despite this significant growth, the proposed Ordinance does not establish a cap on future warehouse development or set a limit on the total amount of warehouse space that may ultimately be approved. The Ordinance acknowledges concerns regarding traffic, truck congestion, noise, air quality, and other impacts on residents' quality of life.
Whether you support or oppose this Ordinance, this decision could have long-term consequences for our community. If you have concerns about additional warehouse development, truck traffic, road capacity, noise, air quality, or whether limits should be placed on future warehouse growth, tonight is your opportunity to be heard.
Public comment is an important part of the process. A strong turnout demonstrates that residents are paying attention and care about the future of Franklin Township.

First they want to get rid of gas-powered leaf blowers, now lawn mowers are added to the list! Let’s take a look at the big picture. As I mentioned before, E15 gas is now being sold at more gas stations , which will damage cars older than 2001 , all motorcycles and lawn mowers! Maybe with the introduction of E15 gas, they want to force us to get rid of our old cars and buy new electric cars or new gas cars with the “kill switch” (also as I mentioned before. Also I hear it’s getting more difficult to get spare parts for older cars. Does anyone see a pattern here? I think I do, and it doesn’t look good! - Jim Johnston

New Jersey seniors are feeling the pinch as proposed cuts to the Stay NJ program threaten vital property tax relief. And at the Franklin Town Council meeting on May 26 I complained about these proposed cuts to Stay NJ program, but NO ONE on the council responded to me about my concerns! - Jim Johnston

Bill Gates is now the largest owner of farmland in the United States. He is buying up all the farmland because he wants to get rid of cattle and have us all eating artificial lab-grown meat and milk products, including lab-grown butter which will be in stores by 2027. He is also pushing data centers and building them on farmland, and these data centers will use up all the water supply so farmers can’t irrigate their crops! This is madness! - Jim Johnston

Bill Gates has emphasized that the traditional food production system is undergoing a fundamental transformation as the world shifts toward lab-grown and cultured foods to meet sustainability goals. Through investments in companies developing cellular agriculture and synthetic proteins, he highlights the need for innovative solutions that reduce the environmental strain of conventional livestock farming while addressing the demands of a growing global population. This transition represents a move away from resource-intensive old methods toward more efficient, controlled production systems.

Lab-grown foods, cultivated from animal cells in bioreactors, offer significant advantages including lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduced land and water usage, and elimination of animal slaughter. Supporters like Gates argue that these technologies can provide high-quality protein at scale, improve food security, and help combat climate change by minimizing the ecological footprint associated with traditional agriculture. This approach aligns with broader efforts to create resilient and ethical food systems for the future.

As global food production evolves, the integration of lab-grown alternatives underscores the importance of balancing innovation with practical implementation. While challenges remain, this shift promises to deliver sustainable outcomes that benefit both the planet and human health by fostering technological progress in nutrition and environmental stewardship.
