Busy day for the SVFD. Members stood by for the Lions Club Track Invitational Meet, participated in the semi-annual Westchester County Airport emergency response drill, and responded to numerous fire and ems calls.

One of the many calls was a Multi Car Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) on ROUTE 35/CHALMERS BLVD. Car 2441 arrived on scene and reported a 4 car Motor Vehicle Accident. One patient was transported to a local hospital by Somers EMS. Units operated for approximately 80 minutes before returning to service.

SVFD represents at Westchester County Airport’s bi-annual emergency preparedness drill.

Westchester County Airport (HPN) is required to execute an emergency response drill every 3 years to maintain their FAA certification. Today they simulated a runway collision between a Jet Blue and 4-seat Cessna resulting in fire and mass cassualties. Fire and EMS companies from Westchester county performed fire suppression, hazmat, triage and patient transport. Over 150 actors volunteered as patients (including 20 boy scouts from Somers boy scout troop 228).

This valuable exercise reinforced multi-agency communication and interoperability to execute a unified response to a mass casualty incident (mci).

The SVFD looks forward attending next time.

SVFD Probationary Members participated in a breathe down drill to assess how much air they consume while doing strenuous activity. This determines their benchmark on how much they consume on one SCBA bottle.

Somers daisy troop 2630 visited the Lincolndale firehouse today. The girls learned about our EMS and fire operations. They asked terrific questions and best of all, got to spend lots of time with firedog Harry.
