Results of 2026 Voter Canvass
Each year, in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section §9-32, the Somers Registrar of Voters conducts an annual random canvass of active registered voters to determine their continued eligibility. Those voters who received a canvass letter, but did not return their form within 30 days indicating their continued residence in Somers had their active status changed to inactive by the CT Secretary of the State. For 2026, the Registrar's Office sent out a total of 1482 letters. The deadline to respond to the letters was May 1, 2026. As a result, 406 voters replied by the deadline to maintain their active voter status, 103 voters confirmed they had moved away and were removed from the voter rolls, 54 letters were returned by the Post Office as having an undeliverable address and 919 voters were made inactive for not confirming their address and returning the letter within the allotted thirty days.
Residents of Somers can verify their active status as voters by going to http://www.dir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx and filling in their name and birthday. After the search, if the message states "name cannot be found" the voter is no longer on the active list, and if they wish to continue to vote, they must re-register either by registering online at https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR/welcome.do or by visiting the Somers Town Hall, Somers Registrar, or Town Clerk's office and completing a Voter Registration Form. A copy of the list of inactive voters is posted on the main bulletin board in Town Hall.
Residents can stop by and check their status there as well. The registrars would like to thank all those citizens who responded to the canvass helping to keep the voter registration rolls accurate.

The Town of Somers Elections Department and Registrar of Voters’ Office conducts a yearly canvass of registered voters, between January 1st and April 30th, as required by the Connecticut General Statutes Section 9-32. If you received an envelope with this warning printed in bright red DO NOT RISK YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE, open it immediately. Inside you will find a response form and postage paid envelope. Please check the appropriate boxes, personally sign, date and return it via the postage-paid envelope provided.
There are five reasons you might receive a canvass letter: 1. the post office reported that you moved within town; 2. the post office or other state agency have reported that you moved out of town; 3. you haven’t voted in any primary, referendum or election during the last four years (including two federal elections); 4. the post office returned a mailing sent to you from the Registrars’ office as undeliverable; or 5. we received information from another state that flagged you as a potential duplicate voter.
It is important to return the completed canvass letter as soon as possible. If we do not receive a response within 30 days, the elector’s voting status may be changed from “Active” to “Inactive”.
The canvass helps maintain accurate voter rolls by ensuring that all registered voters are still eligible and residing at their listed address. A total of 1482 canvass letters were mailed out on 3/31/2026.
