Rotary Club of Solon, Ohio

Rotary Club of Solon, Ohio The Rotary Club of Solon, an affiliate of Rotary International, meets weekly and supports the Solon, Ohio community and the international work of Rotary.

Our business is service. Rotary is the world's largest and oldest community service organization, and we are one of 30,000 Rotary clubs worldwide. Our club is made up of members of the Solon community (most of whom live and/or work in Solon) who want to give back in some way. Our service is both local and international. Our local projects include helping to fund the Safety Town facility at the Sol

on Community Park and the monthly food pantry operated at the Church of the Resurrection (which now serves over 200 people a month). We are also active with the Solon schools, sponsoring students of the month and an annual speech contest for high school students, and we provide four scholarships for high school seniors and scholarships for up to three juniors to attend Rotary's youth leadership camp. Internationally, we focus on clean drinking water, but have supported a number of different charitable organizations and other projects by Rotary clubs in northeast Ohio. We encourage you to visit one of our meetings or fundraising events, and to join us if service is YOUR business! Please reach out to find out when our next meeting is!

At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Solon, we installed Sway Cooper, publisher of Solon Neighbors magazine. Also, she was our speaker! Sway shared the story behind the magazine - why she and her husband took it on, the challenges that come with producing a monthly publication, and what makes the work so meaningful and rewarding. She'll also offer insight into how the magazine connects and celebrates the Solon community.

Today, members of the Solon Rotary volunteered at the RePlay for Kids Toy Adapting Workshop in Solon.

RePlay for Kids teaches volunteers how to adapt battery-powered toys with switches so children with disabilities can use them—then provides these toys free to organizations that serve them.

A small change can make a big difference. Proud to be part of a community making an impact.

Our younger son Matt took us to an amazing brunch at The Hive, the vision of Kimberly and Jimmy Gibson, members of the Rotary Club of the Chagrin Valley. A few years back, Kimberly received a scholarship to The Culinary Institute of America. Who awarded the scholarship? The Rotary Club of the Chagrin Valley! As the saying goes, "The rest is history"!

We recently held our annual speech contest and dinner where we listened to outstanding speeches from students at Solon High School. Sharvi Deshpande was our winner talking about prescription drug prices. On to the District contest! Joining her will be Minseong Hong who spoke about book bans. We also honored two middle school students and two high school students for their Service Above Self commitment to the community. The evening began with a thank you from Maya Nayar's mother Archana, for honoring Maya as she was a speech winner two years in a row. Maya tragically passed away last year.
