Honor and Remember our Fallen.

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But in a larger sense we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Quick updates on hail storm aftermath:

1. The City has set up a website to report all damage to houses and personal property efficiently (instead of 500+ emails to the Fire Chief). If you have already reported by emailing the Fire Chief, no need to submit a form online. The Fire Department will receive an email with each submission. Link is attached.

2. The Community Center pool remains closed. The power outage caused damage to the electrical system, primarily affecting the aquatic area pumps, motors, and related equipment. The Rec. Department is working with Public Works and City electricians to get to the bottom of it and reopen the pool.

As you know, today’s severe storm caused damage to personal property throughout the Ward and City. I hope your property was not seriously damaged but more importantly I hope you and your family are safe. A few notes and updates:

• Please report any damage of your house or property to the Fire Chief by emailing [email protected]. The Chief asks that you include your name, address, phone number, and the type of damage sustained. This information will help our safety forces identify the areas that have been impacted the most. Reporting may also help your insurance claim.

UPDATE: Please report damage at the below link instead of emailing for greater efficiency and response. An email will be sent to the Fire Department with each submission.

• The City has been in contact with Cuyahoga Emergency Management to report damage within the City and assist in the damage assessment process.

• If you are still without power, it is extremely important that you report the outage to First Energy, even if someone has already reported it. First Energy will prioritize restoration service to the areas with the most reports. Report the outage by texting "OUT" to 544487 (LIGHTS), calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or on the First Energy website.

Once you have reported by texting, you can get updates on restoration, including estimated restoration time, by texting “STAT.”
