​I’ve been getting so many questions lately about seeking care and how it impacts your —especially for those still in uniform. There is a lot of fear that reaching out for help is a "career killer," but the truth is that clarification on this issue saves lives.

​Many of us are told to head straight to the VA. While the VBA is a vital resource, there are actually a few critical steps that happen first to determine your path and ensure you are supported correctly.

​📍 The Roadmap to Care:
​Step 1: Clinical Assessment – Before any paperwork hits the VBA, the focus is on a medical evaluation. This is about health, not just benefits.

​Step 2: Command/Service Coordination – If you are still serving, there are specific protocols (like the Integrated Disability Evaluation System or IDES) that help determine fitness for duty while prioritizing your recovery.

​Step 3: The VBA Connection – Once the medical side is established, the VBA steps in to handle the administrative and benefit side of your journey.

​The Bottom Line: Seeking help doesn’t mean the end of your career; in many cases, it’s the tool that allows you to sustain it. If you’re a veteran or active duty member feeling lost in the "VBA vs. VHA" shuffle, don't wait. You don't have to navigate the bureaucracy alone.
