🎨Schools in Soldotna are back in session, and that means a fresh installment of student art in the city council chambers! The latest display highlights work from Mrs. Rudstrom and Ms. Cannava's kindergarten classes at Soldotna Elementary and features prints made with real octopuses! (octopi? octopodes?) However you pluralize it, these prints – and the photos documenting their creation – are worth checking out.

The Spirit of Soldotna: Showcasing Student Art program highlights the creativity and talent of local students, providing them with a public platform to share their artistic expressions with the community. The gallery is open one hour prior to all public meetings at Soldotna City Hall, to allow community members an opportunity to view the artwork. A schedule of public meetings can be found online at soldotna.community.diligentoneplatform.com

The Soldotna City Council meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd was a busy one, with a commending resolution, a resolution in memorium, a mayoral proclamation, and the confirmation of Soldotna High School student Kate Cox as the new City of Soldotna student representative to the city council.

A commending resolution recognized Bill and Elaine Howell for their years of dedicated leadership of the Soldotna Saturday Farmer's Market and wished them well on their retirement. Bill and Elaine Howell were in attendance to accept the resolution.

A resolution in memorium was passed to honor former Soldotna Mayor and Alaska State Representative, Ken Lancaster, a respected community leader and dedicated public servant who recently passed away at the age of 83. Members of Ken Lancaster's family were in attendance to accept the resolution.

Mayor Whitney also issued a proclamation recognizing October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, encouraging all citizens to dedicate themselves to learning about how to reduce domestic violence, and to support the domestic violence programs in our community. A representative from the LeeShore Center was in attendance to accept the proclamation.
