Kenai Peninsula Borough The Kenai Peninsula Borough, incorporated in 1964 as a second-class borough by the people of the KPB. The 2020 estimated population is 58,934.

Kenai Peninsula Borough ("K-Pen") is a borough of the State of Alaska. The borough seat is located in Soldotna. The K-Pen includes the entirety of the Kenai Peninsula and a few areas on the opposite side of Cook Inlet (west of the mainland). The borough's boundaries includes a total area of 24,752 square miles (64,110 km2), of which 16,075 square miles (41,630 km2) is land and 8,677 square miles (22,470 km2) is water. The K-Pen is a second-class borough, consisting of a strong mayor and assembly members from the nine districts that represent the entire borough. Governing powers include collecting sales and property taxes and providing services such as road maintenance, waste collection facilities, emergency services as well as funding public schools and Kenai Peninsula College. A reminder to our residents that this Sunday is the last Sunday the Seward, Homer, Kenai, Nikiski, and Sterling transfer sites will be open before transitioning to winter hours.

Beginning October 1, these facilities will be closed on Sundays through May 1 as part of our seasonal schedule.

If you typically visit on Sundays, now is a great time to plan ahead and adjust your disposal schedule for the winter months.

NOTICE OF REGULAR ELECTION TABULATOR TESTING
LOGIC AND ACCURACY TESTING
SEPTEMBER 30 – OCTOBER 2, 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN Logic and Accuracy testing of the automatic tabulating equipment that will be used for counting ballots at voting places on November 3, 2026 for the Kenai Peninsula Borough Regular Election will begin on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 and continue as necessary through Friday, October 2, 2026 The testing period is scheduled for 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day and will continue as deemed necessary to complete. Testing will take place at the George A. Navarre Borough Administration Building in the Betty J. Glick Assembly Chambers.

INITIAL TEST: The Kenai Peninsula Borough Election Coordinator Board will be performing and certifying the initial logic and accuracy testing of the ballot counting program and memory cards on the tabulators which will be used to conduct the November 3, 2026 Regular Municipal Election beginning on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The testing will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go no later than 5:00 p.m. Testing may continue the following day, if necessary.

SECOND TEST: The Kenai Peninsula Borough Election Review Board will be performing a second logic and accuracy test on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The testing will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go no later than 5:00 p.m. Testing may continue the following day, if necessary. Logic and Accuracy Testing is opened to the public.
