The 2026 Assessment notices are being mailed out today. They are a little early, but I wanted to give everyone extra time to look at them. I have included a letter in each envelope that briefly explains what the values have done this year. We were still catching up in the southern part of the county, but overall sales showed that we seem to have stayed strong but have leveled out compared to what they have been doing over the past few years. There continues to be some misinformation out there on social media about increased in property values leading to the same increase in property taxes. The system in Idaho does not work in this way. We are a budget-based state. That is to say that our growth in budget is limited. As values rise our levy rate adjusts down. Other taxing districts (schools, libraries and cities) work on the same concept.
We at the Assessor's office strive to value properties equitably and fairly. This office is only tasked with the valuation portion of the process, but they all go hand in hand. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Assessor's office and I am happy to try and answer questions and explain the process.
