The Socorro County Sheriff’s Office will not contact you regarding a warrant or unpaid fines or jury duty via telephone. We have received reports of individuals calling from (575)835-0941, falsely claiming to represent our office and demanding payment.

Do not disclose personal information to unknown parties, particularly over the phone. Please contact our office immediately.

This is a scam attempt aimed at obtaining your personal information and financial resources.

December 12, 2025 the Socorro County Sheriff’s Office held there 5th annual Shop with a deputy program.

This program would not work without the support of many business within Socorro County and the surrounding areas.

Our office was able to provide breakfast, arts and crafts, pictures with Santa, take the kids shopping at Walmart and provide a lunch.

Stanley Mayo of Socorro was sentenced by Judge Shannon Murdock-Poff on December 16, 2025. He received an 18-year sentence in the department of corrections and was ordered to register as a sexual offender for life.

Mayo had faced charges filed in December 2021, including three counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Pe*******on of a child under 13, two counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a minor in the second degree by a person in authority involving unclothed contact with a 13-18 year old, and one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a child aged 13-18.

The investigation was led by Detective James Nance and Deputy Gonzalo Lopez.
