Heading out to one of Georgia's beautiful lakes or rivers, or to the coast this Memorial Day weekend? Safety starts with planning ahead! Before you launch, make sure your boat is fully equipped with US Coast Guard-approved life jackets for every single passenger, and remember that Georgia law requires children under 13 to wear a life jacket at all times while the vessel is in motion.
Also, do not operate your vessel if you are impaired by alcohol or drugs (including prescription drugs). Game Wardens have a zero-tolerance policy for Boating Under the Influence (BUI). Designate a sober operator, and let’s make sure everyone makes it home safely.

Kick off the summer the right way—safely! If your Memorial Day weekend plans involve Georgia's beautiful lakes or rivers, keep these golden rules in mind:
1️⃣ Pack the Jackets: A properly fitting life jacket for everyone on board is the law.
2️⃣ Watch the Kids: Children under 13 must wear their life jackets whenever the boat is moving.
3️⃣ Designate a Skipper: Alcohol and water don't mix. Game Wardens will be out actively patrolling to keep our waters safe. They'll be checking safety gear and keeping a sharp eye out for boating violations and impaired operators.

The ultimate goal - for everyone to have an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend!!
