What a night for Snyder!

The City of Snyder was honored to attend the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Texas Environmental Excellence Awards Banquet in Austin this past Tuesday. The night was spent acknowledging the people, partnerships, and organizations working to make communities across Texas stronger and more vibrant.

We are incredibly proud of our community and the many partners who help make Snyder such a special place to live, and work. Strong communities are built through collaboration, and it was an honor to celebrate alongside those who are making a difference.

City staff was joined by Carolyn Torres from Snyder ISD, Councilmember Sarah Jamison, Dr. Laurie Sharp of Western Texas College, and we had the opportunity to rub elbows with Texas Senate Legislative Director Jeff Waldock from Texas Senator Kevin Sparks office.

It was a wonderful evening filled with celebration, connection, and pride in the work being done to move Snyder forward.

Weather permitting (rain or high winds), the City of Snyder will begin spraying for mosquitoes at dusk on Monday, June 15. The area west of College Avenue will be sprayed on Monday, and the area east of College Avenue will be sprayed on Tuesday, June 16. The Green Hill Addition (north of Huffman Avenue), Hermleigh, Fluvanna, and Ira will be sprayed on Wednesday, June 17.

City and County officials remind residents to help control the mosquito population by cutting tall weeds, emptying containers of standing or stagnant water, removing old tires, and eliminating other areas where mosquitoes may breed.

The city plans to spray every two weeks during the summer months to help control the mosquito population.

It’s National Donut Day!

Luckily in Snyder we don’t really have to choose thanks to great donut providers like Tiger Donuts, Jack N Jill, and the bakery teams at United and Walmart.

But… if you had to choose just ONE donut style to eat for the rest of your life, what are you picking?

Classic glazed
Chocolate
Jelly-filled
Long John
Cake donut
Other (tell us in the comments!)

No judging… unless you say plain cake donut.

In observance of World Bicycle Day, The City of Snyder is thinking of our Texas 4000 for Cancer friends as they continue their incredible journey to Anchorage, Alaska.

Today, riders are enjoying a well-earned rest day in South Lake Tahoe before continuing north. We’re cheering them on every mile of the way in their fight against cancer.

City crews are performing maintenance on streets on the east side of town today.

Chip sealing helps preserve roads at a fraction of the cost of asphalt overlays or full reconstruction, allowing taxpayer dollars to stretch further while extending the lifespan of existing streets. This is especially helpful for communities like ours with limited budgets.

But what about potholes? We understand potholes and deteriorating streets remain a concern for our residents. Those issues are being addressed on a case-by-case basis, with maintenance priorities guided by road condition, safety, available manpower, materials and funding to help the City make the most improvements possible with limited resources.

Crews are leaving tags to notify residents of planned work. We kindly ask that vehicles not be parked on the street during this time, as parked cars can delay maintenance efforts and slow progress.

Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain and improve our streets.
